“Christmas Diving holiday at Sentido Hotel”
Reviewed 5 May 2012

Christmas 2011 was spent with my family diving the Red Sea. Grandparents (that's us) two daughters, partners and two grandchildren 15 & 11. Fly to Marsa Alam airport it is the nearest, only 40 mins away. Rooms were basic, very clean and comfortable. Yes the bathrooms need to be upgraded but for the money we paid no complaints. All areas were kept very clean as were the swimming pools. The food was very good and the special Christmas Eve buffet was absolutely fantastic. The service from all the staff was first rate with nothing being too much trouble and always a friendly smile and greeting. The hotel was not completely full but there was a mix of all nationalities which the hotel did very well in catering for all needs. Not just pasta but everything including vegetarian options. It was wonderful to dive with my grandchildren and children at the age of 68, although the water was a bit colder than the tropical waters we are used to.

Having travelled all over Egypt for many years, staying in beach locations, local homes, boats and the more historical establishments in Luxor and Aswan.I feel I am able to give an experienced and honest account. I found what made this hotel was the staff, the majority coming from Luxor who are kind, warm, friendly and cannot do enough to please. They are working in very difficult circumstances, The hotel struggled to cope with the high number of guests they experienced in our second week, there were queues waiting to be admitted for dinner, when this was not tolerated by guests, further tables and chairs were added and eating areas extended the following day.
The catering staff do a good job in the provision of meals, but very repetitive, as predominantly Italian guests (400+ to appx 12 English) the daily substantive fayre is pizza and pasta(pasta cooked to perfection by the pasta chef employed by the Italian Tour company and not the hotel). There was always a wait for crockery, cutlery as the waiters frantically cleared dirty tables and hurriedly re set tables. Commendation due to Saad in the Main dining room, 14 days of smiles despite everything and always a drink waiting for you.
An unfortunate incident occured on our last evening when we had booked the Italian Restaurant (tables just outside the main restaurant) An Italian guest had arrived for dinner wearing shorts and refused to respect the long trousers for dinner request, he was pandered to and cajoled by the staff for 1hr and was then allowed into the ' A La Carte' Italian Restaurant where bookings are required 3 days in advance. When Thomas Cook guests had arrived late one evening after over 17hrs travelling and attempted to access the almost empty dining room prior to closure they were catagorically refused admission, despite being unaware of rule as only arrived, trousers were purchased in the shop by several parties as luggage had left to be transferred to rooms which were a little distance from the dining room. As a result, as a protest for the inequality the English guys removed their long trousers and proceeded to eat their meal in their underwear!, explaining to management that they cannot allow one rule for one guest out of several hundred, however as the Italian guests are the majority it is clear this is exactly what is allowed, after much discussion it was agreed that the monies for the trousers purchased in the on site store would be refunded and an assurance that future guests would not be allowed to disregard the rule, but sadly it should never have been allowed to have happened and left a very distasteful impression which was sad as I had a lovely evening the week before to celebrate my birthday.
Management must address the beach towel problem I have NEVER on any beach holiday anywhere in the world had the same towels for 2 weeks!. There is a distinct lack of the large striped beach towels - the alternatives being frayed, greyish, large hand towels which were totally ridiculous for using with the sunbed. The usual 'business' goes on with the lifeguards supplying and laying out towels for money, this is common practice all over i appreciate this, and have no problem whatsovere with this. When I complained about the lack of towels, I was assured that this could be rectified as the lifeguard's friend worked in the laundry, I really couldn't be bothered and just kept the original issue.
The guys clean all day long and are always seen with a cloth or brush in hand, this is typical of the Luxor and Cairo workers. My housekeeper Tito - rooms 200-220, kept the room absolutely spotless a real gem. The rooms like the facade mentioned previously need to be re furbished, there was mould on the bathroom tiling and grouting, the wardobes had an unpleasant stale odour, that was not through the lack of cleaning but just badly needing an overhaul. Air Con was excellent.
The facade of the buildings need desperate attention, in some areas they look downright disgraceful. This is first time I have stayed at an Egyptian Beach hotel where i have not seen local workers up 'home made' scaffolds with buckets of render, paint etc undertaking repairs, guests don't mind this as they see effort is being put in for their benefits.
Excellent, unlimited provision of bottled water and branded soft drinks, often lacking in other hotels. Omar on the Sultan Terrace delivered drinks with a smile-superb service.
If I had children: the entertainment team did an admirable job, but I suggested in resort that the quiet terrace was not the place to entertain excited youngsters in the afternoon when guests were quietly relaxing or utilising the WiFi(chargeable) spot. This was taken on board and acted upon.
Overall this was a fair Egyptian AI. beach holiday, made better by the warmth and first class service of the staff, who are priceless. Sadly my experience did not lead me to feel the 3 hr transfer was worth it in this case, when transfers can be as little as 15 mins in Sharm or 1 hr in Hurghada, for genuinely 4 & 5 *. I would rate this hotel a 3*. I will relay this to Thomas Cook Head Office, as the almost complete invisibilty of the Rep meant I did not discuss this with him on site.
I would not recommend this hotel to my family, friends or colleagues only because this is not a 4* or 5* Hotel and this is the standard we book, however for a family with young children who don't mind the long transfer and are looking for a good entertainment 3*star holiday then this may be the holiday for you.

Room Tip: Any room that has Tito the housekeeper is the one to go for!!

What an excellent hotel, the staff are fantastic, very friendly and the Hotel Conciege will sort any problems you have quickly and efficiently. My wife and I were there with friends on our honeymoon and the service was fantastic, the room was beautiful and right on the beach. The Italian Restaurant does the best steak ever and the buffet restaurant food is very good, BUT, please be aware that long trousers must be worn in all restaurants at night.
I never go back to the same hotel but, i would recommend this hotel to all and i would definitely pick another Sentido Hotel.

Room Tip: We had room 101 and it was well away from the lobby area and very quiet

My husband and I stayed here as part of our honeymoon for a week, the room was beautiful and right on the beach, we could literally open the doors to our veranda and walk 10 paces into the sand. The house reef was in great condition with plenty for us to see snorkelling. The hotel entertainment team were amazing, I have never met a more enthusiastic and happy bunch, and they did everythin they could to provide something to appeal to everyone, every day! The food was of a high standard with lots of variety and the specialist restaurants were delectable.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a break away from tourist meccas but still with plenty to do if relaxing on the beach or by the pool is too much.

Ok, so it's a two and a half hour bus transfer from Hurghada airport making it a very long trip from Gatwick overall but was it worth the journey ? - YES. Our first time in Egypt and we were looking for a real escapism location without pubs, clubs and MacDonald's everywhere. Just a gorgeous beach, blue sea, sun and a great hotel with nothing but desert on the west side, so the location was perfect for us. The Sentido itself really lived up to our expectations. We had a lovely apartment, very spacious and with an Egyptian feel, right on the beach front. The food ( all inclusive) was excellent in the main restaurant with loads of choice as they varied the dishes daily. There was always a very good vegetarian choice, a kids choice, an Egyptian choice etc so meal times were never boring. In our view, there was no need to try either the separate Italian or fish restaurants as we felt that the food on offer there didn't rival the quality or choice of the food in the main restaurant.
Around the hotel itself there are three pools and in April there was loads of space for everyone. We could always get sunbeds easily at any time of the day, that goes for on the beach too. The central pool and surrounding area was the hub of the entertainment and acivities ie water polo, aqua aerobics, yoga etc were centered around it, so it was busier with familys using it. However, the pool closest to our apartment ( just out of our back door in fact) was beautifully quiet the whole time ; we had it to ourselves almost, along with the pool bar, and all of this with stunning sea views.
There is so much space in this hotel both inside and out. There are areas designated for outdoor activities ie boules, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, football pitch, mini golf , and without sounding like this is the Egyptian version of Butlins, these spaces are carefully situated within the overall design without seeming incongrous to the overall Egyptian feel and of the hotel.
If we had one gripe, it would be that there was nowhere for adults to go for a quiet drink away from the entertainment and music in the evenings other than inside the main reception area which was , I have to say, very nice. The evening entertainment seemed to be centered around kids and young families which is fine, but for couples and adults, a quiet outdoor location serving drinks would be good, although that said, the entertainment didn't go on for too long.
Overall, we thought this hotel was excellent. It caters well for the young and active, families with children, couples and older people. Nowhere is inaccessible as it's all on a flat level. There is plenty of space for everyone. There is plenty to do. The pools are beautiful. The beach is stunning. The food was excellent. The room was excellent. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The whole place is kept up to a very high standard of cleanliness, including the beautiful garden areas which are attended to everyday. We wanted peace and quiet in lovely surroundings and this is what we found here. We think it will offer something for everyone and would recommend this hotel very highly. Sue x

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a beach view. Some rooms near the main restaurant/ central pool may be less pea...
