“Very good hotel”
Reviewed 16 June 2013

Smooth quick check in
Very professional and amiable front desk staff (Mina is very good at his work)
Excellent beach and pool
Excellent breakfast and dinner restaurants with lots of variety and the staff are very friendly and helpful
Rooms are good but they need maintenance ( I visited twice; on 2010 it was impeccable but on 2012 rooms needed maintenance esp the bathrooms)
On my 2010 visit we had an excellent beach facing room... It was like ur own beach house
They were starting maintenance on 2012, I hope they are done with that to regain the hotel it's glamour, coz it would be a shame if this hotel does not get the right maintenance
Only problem is they don't have a shuttle bus to get u from or to the airport or down town Marsa Allam
The hotel is great value for money and I recommend u give it a chance ( ESP if they did renovations recently)
Thank u really everybody for doing a great job, and being so professional...

We were particulary looking forward to our return to Coraya, our 9th visit, especially as it has now become a 'Couples only' resort. As grandparents we are quite happy to have children around but there are times when you want a little peace and in this respect Coraya has managed to transform itself in a short time. Only saw two 'liitle people' during our stay on the Coraya section of the beach and they were intercepted by security and redirected. However we were not pleased to find that the resort has now embarked, together with TUI, on a full occupancy strategy.
Previously you could count in handfuls the number of guests being dropped off the coach but this time we had two full coaches from the Gatwick flight and a similar number from the Manchester one. Thomson have been offering heavily discounted all-inclusive rates from early this year and those of us who, as repeat guests, booked earlier were not happy to find that we had paid a premium for below par services.
The resort is not equipped for full occupancy. The restaurant was crowded, especially at opening time, with waiting times for tables. The staff are rushed off there feet with little time to engage with guests. Tables remain uncleared, with often plates from two or three courses left on the table. There was a general rush for early dining in order to secure seating afterwards for drinks on the terrace. Even with entertainment now being centered on the amphitheatre, which took up some of the post dining seating demand, it was still difficult to find anything on the terrace after 8pm.
Although not so evident during our two weeks the demand for sunbeds by the pool and on the beach caused problems. Friends who stayed the week prior to our arrival recounted management taking action to remove towels and personal belonging from sunbeds unoccupied after one hour due to shortage. There is a notice to this effect plainly stating that the management will not be held responsible for personal items so removed. These shortages rolled over into personal friction between guests.
The resort still maintains a good standard of accommodation and is well maintained. The room stewards are pushed to complete the daily routine in time. They obviously now have to cover more rooms and the standard of cleanliness has dropped off a bit. Food wise the standard remains good, but here again the impact of increased guest numbers is noticable with more of the 'burger and chips' style dishes on the menu.
We spoke with a number of repeat guests of various nationalities, many of whom we have met over the years, and the general view was the resort has radically changed in character. What was once a good quality resort that provided a personal friendly service with attention to detail has now become just another mass market resort. Most certainly repeat guests will not return at the full pricing and those that experianced the 'cheap' deals available of late will expect the same structure if they are to return.
In summary this resort has sacrificed it's leading position that provided a quality personal service in order to enter the mass market. As a result it has nothing unique to offer and is likely to soon lose it's No 1 rating.

Dear Sir,
Thank you very much for your time taken to post a review regarding your stay at Iberotel Coraya Beach Resort, we were very pleased to host you back at your Coraya second home.

I have reviewed with attention all your comments & have communicated them further with all concerned to make sure that they are addressed for improvement. I would like also to explain few points regarding your communicated comments. At first, I want to let you rest assured that we didn't change our sales strategy aiming full occupancy at cheaper prices, in fact special packages with slightly reduced rates have been introduced by several tour operators aiming to eliminate empty seats. Allocation of flights to Marsa Alam is done to several hotels in the destination and not only Coraya.

Quality service has been & will remain our main target and we do all possible efforts to sustain our service standards & even improve to the comfort of our guests. I am very sorry that you didn't much like the fact that hotel was nearly full during your stay & that this somehow negatively affected certain service factors such as restaurant being full, however staff members are always very keen to offer quality service with a personal touch and we will ensure that staff have the time to maintain this fact.

Despite the fact that hotel was nearly full over the past 2 weeks, we have had enough shaded sun loungers on the pool & beach for every guest as you may have noticed and for guests who used to book sun loungers and be away for more than 1 hour, we make sure that policy is applied & well communicated to the guests and they meet this with understanding & respect .

Regarding housekeeping service, as we knew we are going to be full, we were well prepared in terms on man power assuring that every single room has the standard time & cleanliness steps, while number of rooms assigned to an attendant remains the same as with low or average occupancy rates.

In terms of food items & menu, we have not changed our menu style to meet the trend of increasing guests, on the contrary we have tried to maintain & enhance our quality buffet menus, variety & buffets presentation.

Again, I would like to thank you on behalf of Coraya entire team for having the chance to know such a valuable feedback of a loyal guest as your goodself & we promise that we will spare no effort to handle the communicated points and work on them making sure that quality service & standards will always remain our major target to sustain & we do hope to have the chance serving you again in the future.

Best Regards,
Hossam Saber

We stayed here for thwo weeks in June 2013

We though is was a great hotel with great service. Hotel is 15 mins from Marsa Alam airport but we weren't disturbed by any aircraft noise during our stay.

Rooms were pre-allocated and luggage was labelled with our room number at the airport. This made the whole check in process much quicker.

Our room was spacious with a balcony, It had all the facilities you would expect, Mini bar, flat screen TV, kettle along with tea and coffee, room safe, plenty of wardrobe space. Our one criticism is that the bed was very firm. The room was kept spotlessly clean by our room boy and his work with towels was fantastic.

The pool areas had plenty sunbeds and, if you wanted, matresses to make them even more comfortable. The hotel had a 'no reservation before 08.00' policy although this seemed to be lightly enforced. Having said that there were never problems finding a bed unless you arrived late in the morning. The beach area also had plenty of space with windbreaks for each pair of beds.

Service at the pools was good, perhaps better at the pool by the Fayrouz restaurant than the terrace pool. The swim up bar was always well staffed and there we never had to wait to get served.

We are both Veggies so comments about the food should be taken with this in mind. There are several restaurants, One main buffet where, being veggies, we ate all the time during our stay, and some a la catre restaurants which you were entitled to use on a limited basis as part of your all inclusive package. The food in the buffet was very good for veggies, we didn't find an occasion where there was nothing suitable for us. Once the Chefs understood our food needs they offered to cook something especially for us, a very nice 'personal' touch. For non veggies there seemed to be a wide variety of food available including nightly grills and barbecues on the terrace.

The animation team were cheerful and did their best to get everyone involved but, if like us, you only wanted to chill they respected that and left you to chill. The evening entertianment was a mix of music on the terrace or shows in the ampitheater. More entertainment follwed in the upstairs bar for those with the energy (not for us!)

The staff in the hotel were absolutely brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble and they always seemed to be willing to go the extra mile to ensure that their guests every need was met.

We we were due to leave we were delayed by four hours by industrial action by French Air Traffic Controllers. Having checked out we feared we would be stranded either in the hotel or at the airport waiting for our flight. To his credit the Thompson reps, Sami and Helen, tried to keep everyone informed in a very pressured situation (there were four coachloads of people leaving at the same time). The hotel staff were also brilliant. They were unable to extend our all inclusive stay to enable us to have an evening meal before departed, but they allowed all the stranded guests to continue to take drinks and they arranged for the chefs to rustle up some snacks and nibbles, which they brought out to all who were waiting on the terrace. A very nice touch and much appreciated.

Thanks Iberotel. You have been brilliant.

Room Tip: If you find the bed too firm please let reception know and they will try their best to make it more...

on boarding the flight we were held up on the tarmac for 30 min as there was no hot food delivered by the catering team to the plane, so we had to go before the crew run out of flying time with no hot food, packed in like animals with no entertainment on flight this was just the start for thomson,

arrived at hotel 21.30 but was made to leave luggage on bus so can be taken to our room by bell boy and made to sit in reception until shown to our room, we got lead round the hotel by staff as to show us to our rooms but we were hungry and just wanted to settle in as we were like being on a school trip and being told what to do on the holiday.thomson states on the web page that its a beach location, not the case as you have to walk half way round the bay as alot roped off for the coral

staff really good and hotel top notch upkeep of the grounds and clenliness, let down first off is the night entertainment, as this hotel has just gone from a family holiday hotel to a couples only you can hear a pin drop, it is so quiet, the hotel are trying to come up with new ideas but you have a singer who is on every night, he is good but every night, it was very boring to be honest. i would say not for the younger person to be honest, also after dinner you sit down to chill and have a few drinks but the bars close at 10.30 and everthing closes.

food was very much hit and miss but mostly missed, they have alot of choice but most was cold due to being left too long, management were around alot to make sure things were done right, but alot of people were ill but mainly thru poor hygiene by holidaymakers dipping fingers in food, main things i had was chips and pasta as other food did not look nice.

DELAYED FLIGHT. tuesday we were told that as checkout was 12.00 on weds but our flight was at 21.00 the hotel agreed to let us stay in the room till 15.00 free but if we wanted to stay til 17.30 as we were being picked up at 18.00 it would cost an extra 40 euros which alot of us did not do as you were paying just for a shower really, on the weds morning we heard rumours the french air traffic was on strike and that the flights to gatwick and manchester might be delayed but we were not told anything by thomson rep or hotel, after talking to a member of staff, her face looked suprised that we knew but still nothing said, at 15.00 we checked out and sat outside having drinks with others but we checked our live timings of flights via internet and it said gatwick was delayed by 5 hours taking off but still nothing from our rep, at 17.00 both flights were all outside reception including the ones who extended there rooms, then we were told that the manchester flight has taken off in uk but wont be going back till tom, so holidaymakers were not happy at the hotel thinking they knew all along about the delays and conned people out of money, hotel made arrangement for them to stay at sister hotel accross the bay, the gatwick flight was delayed by 5 hours and we were now leaving hotel at 22.00 which was not a problem but then got told we would have to pay for food in the resturant but thomson said they would give us a voucher for the airport at costa coffee, at arriving at airport we went to costa but the food was so bad i would not give it to my dog, no choice on what you got, you were told on what you are having, alot of people binned there food before tasting and went to pizza hut instead,

arrived back at gatwick at 06.00 but at 08.00 we were still waiting to get a baggage claim number for our luggage, no one wanted to know and thomson rep upstairs did not want to know, we tried to contact thomson by phone but they were not open till 10.00. 2 hrs had passed so all the flight went to swissport desk who also done nothing, but to only call for security thinking something was going to happen, 09.00 we got our luggage, we will never fly with thomson or gatwick again.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for the communicated review regarding your recent stay at Iberotel Coraya Beach Resort. I am sorry about the negative experience you had with the arriving & departing flights. I have reviewed in details all your comments regarding the hotel with concerned team members to act on areas where we can improve. Kindly allow me to explain certain facts regarding the communicated points.

Beach of Coraya is one of the best beaches along the red sea coast allowing very easy access to snorkelers or swimmers without any walking distance, it is just hotel front where guests can enjoy the beauty of the intact marine life. I am sorry that you found it not easy and that you had to walk half away around the bay to get into the water.

Our animation program is tailor made to meet the satisfaction of our guests, where guests can either enjoy a local act show in the amphitheater or just chill out at the terrace with Khalil, our English singer, enjoying quiet evenings with blankets on the beach events, or for those energetic we also offer disco events. with a variety of various acts, we aim to have different quality activities offered to meet various guests expectations & needs.

I am really sorry that you have noticed that bars are closing by 22h30, however I wish to mention that all evening working bars are working till departure of last guest and that last order policy is in place and set for midnight sharp.

I am also sorry that you have experienced cold food on buffets, however I wish to explain that all hot food items are kept by cooking process & buffet offer not less than 75 degree Celsius, and based on the fact that hotel was full over the past 2 weeks, food replenish for all heated chafing dishes was done on a very quick turnover not exceeding 10 minutes for each item, temperature measures are also taken throughout buffet duration for cold & hot food items regularly to ensure that food is kept at the standard holding temperature or better. All food hygiene practices are very well applied throughout the entire process of food & beverage handling and this is regularly checked via hygiene audits done by an int'l company.

Once more, I would like to thank you again for the communicated review and sorry for any negative aspects & we promise that we will handle all the points communicated and will do our best to improve wherever applicable.

Best Regards,
Hossam Saber

Landed at Marsa Alam airport, so different get your visa at bank or Thomson show your passport get your bag pass customs we were on the coach within 30mins. Its about 15 mins to resort from airport but don't worry you don't see or hear aircraft.I thought check in was a bit over the top although you had a drink and towel We had a pool room and it was big and clean nice walk-in shower.Plenty of cloths storage space and it was kept clean by our room man and clean towels and beach towels to your room each day.
Food was ok had better but you wont go hungry
The staff are very good and polite.Very good pool bar.Entertainment was ok layed back
The hotel is layed out with 3 pools and nice gardens.as usual sunbeds go quick but you can always find one.It leads down onto beach with more beds
The holiday was marred on the last day when we were delayed and resort team would not allow
us to have an evening meal and did not know at the time when we would be flying very bad PR
That's another issue I would stay again

What can I say.... from the moment you arrive to when you leave, absolute perfection. The staff couldn't do enough for you and always had a smile on there faces, kind and courteous. Food excellent, always a great choice and something for everyone. Breakfast was amazing, none of the usual eggs sat in hot plates, No!!! all eggs cooked to order, omelette station, scramble eggs to order and you even boil your own eggs, I like them hard ish my husband like to dip his soldiers!!!!
The al la carte within the hotel was excellent although gets booked up very quickly, as we where only there for one week didn't try the others as the buffet dinners where excellent. The bars were well stocked and the waiters did a great job keeping us supplied with drinks, no waiting around. The pool swim up bar is the best I have been to, kept spotlessly clean with very jovial staff keeping us entertained. The accommodation itself is superb, very airy light rooms, kept immaculately clean with very conscientious staff attending your every need. It was always entertaining to see what they had done with the towels, everything from flowers to elephants !! The entertain staff where great, not too intrusive but always let you know with gentle reminders what was going on. Highlight of the nightly entertainment was on the beach with the singer with the accoustic guitar, excellent. Management team also excellent and very much available. I would highly recommend this hotel to any couple wanting a relaxing holiday.

We stayed at the sister hotel the Lamaya beach last year and disliked it intensely.
However, we had asked for and had a tour of the Coraya last year and, on the strength of liking what we saw we decided to give it ago.
What a good decision! If the Lamaya was classed as 5* then the Coraya should be 10*!
This hotel is as near to perfect as you can get.
Very close to the incredibly quiet Marsa Alan airport with only a 5 minute transfer time.
The service and friendliness of the staff is second to none
The variety and quality of food is excellent including a whole table of vegetarian options, table of various mixed and plain salads, meats and cheeses, table of desserts and fruits of all kinds in addition to the carousel of hot food choices including pasta, pizza, vegetables, potatoes in various guises and chips. The evening meal also included a speciality carvery (beef, lamb, salmon, tuna, duck, barracuda) and a BBQ option cooked to order.
There is also a separate restaurant which is not part of the all inclusive, but you may well be offered a complimentary meal to try it. Even if you have to pay it is not expensive and the food is just beautiful. Well worth trying.
The rooms are spacious, light and airy, selflessly clean and are for the most part, grouped into blocks around separate gardens in seclusion.
Beautifully maintained grounds and gardens with overhanging bouganvillea and flowering trees in profusion - some covering trellis walkways.
The whole hotel is set out like a Nubian Village rather than the usual blocks of long corridors and balconies which all look the same.
The pool area is split into 3 separate areas with a swim up barpool which cascades into another pool where you can swim in a continuous loop under enchanting bridges. The 3rd pool, the deepest at 150cm (5ft), is ideal for swimming and pool games while there is an adjoining shallow pool to just cool off in.
In addition to this is a gently terraced garden and beach bar/cafe leading down onto a long stretch of Sandy beach from which you can paddle, swim or explore the reefs just off the shore. The beach also gives access to the diving/snorkelling jetty across the bay(a 5minute stroll) which you can walk along across the top of the reef and see loads of fish.
If you want entertainment it is there at night on the terrace or in the purpose built amphitheatre where there are different things going on nightly.
For the energetic there are water aerobics and water polo daily, along with beach volley ball, salsa dancing, boules etc.In addition there are various things going on around the pool area cooking demos and decorative towel folding(!)
For the energetically insane there is an excellent gym.
Unlike other hotels we have stayed in the entertainment staff are excellent with no constant harassing to do things that you get in some places.
In particular the two girls Charlie and Jessica work really hard to make the holiday activities special along with Chico, the male equivalent. All 3 are friendly and enthusiastic and all 3 helped to make our holiday enjoyable and fun. There were some other entertainment staff but they weren't much in evidence and I still don't know exactly what they do. Certainly the only active ones were Charlie, Jessica and the lovely Chico!
All in All this was the best and most relaxing holiday we have ever had in Egypt and we have had many over the past 20 years.
Can't praise it enough or fault it in any way. We will definitely be going back

Room Tip: Try a sea view superior room. Well worth the extra small cost
