“Tulip Resort”
Reviewed 26 March 2009

My wife, teenage son and I visited Marsa Alam with some friends for one week in February 2009 and stayed at the Tulip Resort. The all inclusive arrangement is a good idea and was a change from having to take money out with you and having to decide where to go to eat. The quality and variety of the menus and meals were good, with hot snacks poolside, in between b'fast, lunch and evening meals. All drinks were free including alcohol, although there were limitations, e.g. the beer was an Egyptian brand called Luxor, similar to a Carlsberg, the spirits were unknown brands also. The bar staff worked very hard pouring all the drinks manually from bottles into small glasses, for hundreds of guests every night. The weather was hot even though it was only February, and I had to stay in the shade on my last day as I'd had enough. The accomodation is colourfully painted and was average, but nicely arranged into individual buildings around well kept lawns and planted areas. There is a fantastic health spa which is really well organised and run by a good team of young male/female staff. My wife, my son and myself had 2 sessions each during our stay, mine was a Pharoah's session which included being rubbed with a body lotion, feet and hands rubbed with salt, wrapped in towels 'mummy style', then a steam, a sauna, shower, jacuzzi with a mango drink and a 50 minute sports massage, very, very good and I was totally chilled and felt like I was floating around all the next day, with a further sports massage later in the week, all for 70 euros. We also went on some trips, unfortunately we missed the Cairo trip (a 4 hour mini bus drive to Hurghada airport and one hour flight to Cairo) but we got on the Luxor trip, unfortunately the Thomas Cook rep didn't tell us this takes 7 hours by coach there and 7 back, and as we were first on the coach, we had to make seven stops at other resorts on the way which took up the first 2 hours, we were dropped back at the hotel for midnight, and the staff had prepared a nice hot meal for the 12 or so guests. In Luxor we visited the Karnak Temple, the Valley of the Kings, an alabaster work shop, Hepshatsut's temple and a papyrus museum/shop. Emad our guide began to rush the tourists after the alabaster workshop, as he was anxious he'd have to pay the armed roadside guards to get out of Luxor after 6pm. he also failed to do a head count after visiting the papyrus shop, and told the driver to drive off, leaving my wife stood on the pavement....! he couldn't apologise enough and appeased my wife with an ornamental gift as a token gesture.
The highlight of our holiday was the snorkelling in the Red sea, I'd done a bit in Greece in 2000, but wasn't prepared for the views we saw under the surface, especially at Quraan islands, and taking photos of a family of four spinner dolphins on a trip to the dolphin house just made it all perfect.
I'd like to say I'd go back again, but there are so many wonderful places in the world still to explore, but who knows?

Just arrived back from2 weeks at the Tulip Resort Marsa Alam, where we had a great holiday.
The hotel is lovely with a very grand enterance.
The grounds are immaculately kept and the rooms are very clean and spacious and nicely furnished.
The beach is brilliant with loads of sun beds and wind breakers.
We received information from Thomas Cook a week before we went , informing us that the main pool with swim up bar would be closed probably up to the end of March, due to re-tiling.We arrived on the 1st March and by the 4th it was completely finished and open, which was a great bonus as it looked lovely.
The dining rooms are good as is the food, plenty of choice, pasta chef, carvery now and again (turkey, beef etc).Barbaque every night, usually hot dogs and chicken but on many nights fish, egyptian food and continental dishes, every type of bread you can think of for breakfast, lunch & dinner, omeltte chef at breakfast. So there is something for everyone. I am very wary with foreign hotel food especially after some of the the comments on trip advisor about this hotel but I managed to find plenty of thingsI liked.
The entertainment isn't great but having said that we did not watch it much as it was outside and it was a bit cool at night , but they do try their best.
The jetty is a must, it is a great way to get a bit of exercise, it takes about 10-15 mins to walk to the end and see the lovely coral and beautiful coloured fishes and marine life.
The staff are exellent and really friendly.
We took the shuttle bus which goes twice a day to Port Galib, about 20 mins away,it is worth going just to have a change of scenery, there are shops, hotels restaurants and a marina but it is very quiet at the moment as it is still being developed.
Ther were a lot of flies by the pool and on the beach (but not inside the hotel) recommend taking a fly swat!
The weather was lovley and sunny but quite windy and cool at night (warming up though).
There are a few small shops in the hotel where you can get most things you need and a few sovegniers, the prices are quite acceptable (haggle).
We had a really great time at the Tulip and met some lovely people. Go to the beach party on Friday night just to let your hair downI.It is 10 euros but great fun (just dancing and drinks) and goes on until the early hours if you want to stay that long.
If you want to get away from it all and have a nice peaceful holiday and great value for money then this is the place!

This resort is situated with sea on one side and desert the other, when you stand at the end of the jetty and look back it looks like a little oasis in the middle of nowhere. We found the hotel to be fantastic with the most wonderful staff, great food/drink, loads of sunshine every day. The staff were so helpful, friendly, polite and just always wanted you to have fun! The hotel is very clean, lovely gardens and brilliant clean beach with a very long jetty which was lovely to walk both during the day and at night when it is all lit up. There are plenty of loungers both by the pool and on the beach so we never had to worry about finding any. The sea life and coral are amazing and the end of the jetty is great for snokling. I would like to mention that by the time we arrived at the resort the main pool had been completely finished and all tiling was completed, it looked as good as new so no need to worry if you are about to go as the pool was all up and running again when we were there! You are provided with a towel card upon arrival which entitles you to one beach towel per day so you do not need to cram a towel into your luggage if you want to save space in the case! The food is fresh and tasty and there is plenty to choose from, we had no problems with funny tummies. You will never go hungry or thirsty here with three meals a day plus afternoon snack time and drinks always available. All we can say is that we had the most fantastic time at the Tulip and were sad to leave and our only complaint is that we have tried to re book for the Tulip next year and Thomas Cook do not have it scheduled for next year (please, please bring it back Thomas Cook).

If anyone is visiting here, please don't as they are " fixing a few tiles" on the bottom of the main pool. This is what our rep told us on our 2nd day. The pool was screened off, then..chip chip chip from morn til night. the pool was the one with a swim-up bar. we were very disappointed. We went on the beach all week, good job we like the beach. The food was a bit repetative as is usual for all inclusive. Rooms spotless, clean towels & bedding each day. In the middle of nowhere, couldn't even walk out

After reading the mix of views on trip advisor, we decided to put on our rose tinted spectacles, be positive and hope the minority of people complaining about the Tulip resort were just mad as a busload of Monkeys!
This resort is perfectly situated in the middle of nowhere, sea on one side and desert the other. An extremely clean hotel, excellent views, wonderful staff, good food, an everlasting supply of both alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages, a myriad of clearly visible sea life, and pretty much guaranteed sunshine!
Our holiday party consisted of two thirty something's, two grandparents and three children - two boys ( aged 6 and 9 ) and one daughter ( aged 3 with blond hair! )
We could not find fault with one single thing on our trip. The staff are more than plentiful, polite, attentive and friendly ( Make sure you keep a special eye out for "Ayman" and "Richard from Manchester" - lovely jubbly! ). The views are amazing at all times of day and night. The resort is super clean, the gardens are kept immaculately and in the morning they even brush the sand on the beach! The beach is private and no more than 100 yards from the hotel, it also has more sun loungers and wind shelters than you could shake a big stick at! The jetty is the longest in Marsa Alam, the sea life and coral are amazing at any time of day as you take a leisurely stroll upon it and also it incorporates ladders both in the middle and the end of the jetty for snorkelling /scuba purposes. The sea is very shallow for approximately 100 metres from the shoreline making it extremely safe for the young people of this world whilst the big ones have the stroll down the jetty over the coral to reach the deeper waters.
Whilst on the subject of water, the resort has a large pool with bar facilities, one smaller heated pool and a small baby pool. The depth of the larger two pools is a standard 1.6 metres throughout the pools ( worth bearing in mind for the non swimmers amongst you ) and the baby pool is a standard 0.7 metres. Again the sun loungers and wooden parasols are more than plentiful - the resort even gives you a fresh clean beach towel every day if you so wish!
The food is fresh, plentiful and well prepared ( no signs of the pharaohs revenge for our party ). You get your basic staple carbohydrates and loads and loads of different tasty morsels from the worlds cuisine table plus more breads, salads, cheeses and desserts than you would have thought humanly possible ( we would defy even the fussiest gastronome amongst you to go hungry through lack of choice ). The only problem was the lack of time to fit the morning and afternoon snacks into our already well upholstered stomachs!
If you are thinking about changing money to take with you then read on. The hotel and shops prefer Euros ( although they will also take Sterling, Dollars or Egyptian pounds ), Thomas Cook excursions are priced in Dollars and your entry visa into Egypt is best paid in Dollars ( 18 Dollars per person ). There is a cash machine within the hotel which dispenses Egyptian Pounds. The hotel and shops will also accept credit/debit cards.
Penulititamely if you should be fortunate enough to have a young English daughter with blond hair then be prepared for a hell of a lot of attention from the Egyptians ( nothing seedy or untoward ), they seem to think of such girls as deities!
Lastly 7 days at the Tulip resort is not long enough, 10 days without excursions is about right and 14 days including a couple of excursions would be spot on ( A must do excursion is the desert quad biking to a Bedouin village - absolutely amazing ). The only complaint we had was that we had to return back to England!

Just got back from the Tulip Resort in Marsa Alam. 16/02/09
I read the previous reviews and can with 100% honesty say that they must have been to a totally different resort than we did!!
Our party consisted of eight adults and we all had a fantastic time, from snorkelling to quad bikes to horse riding and just lazing around the pool.
Whilst we where there it was my husbands 40th birthday and the staff pulled all the stops out for us. They decorated the tables with banners, balloons etc... They then turned all the lights down and started to dance around the table and brought my husband a fantastic birthday cake out and sang Happy Birthday it was a really memorable experience, I would reccomend this hotel to anyone

Just arrived back from the Tulip after spending 2 weeks there.I travelled there with my husband and 2 daughters aged 14 and 16 years. We were a little apprehensive after having read some of the negative reviews, but I am pleased to say that this holiday ranks as one of the best we have had.On arriving, the staff could not do enough for us.We were greeted in reception by the staff who gave us hot towels to freshen up, and glasses of juice, as well as smiley faces and an eagerness to please. The hotel is magnificent, and the rooms very big and clean with big beds! The rooms were cleaned daily, and we often returned to discover swans and various other impressive animals shaped from the towels on our beds! The food was okay, and there was plenty of it.The hotel has its own beach, and a jetty which takes you out to the coral reef where we experienced the most amazing snorkelling. We saw turtles swimming, and lots of lovely fish, and the dolphins even made an appearance. We arrived back this morning, and are looking to book to return. As for the tummy upsets mentioned in previous reviews, yes 2 of us did get it, but it was quickly sorted by some tablets which the rep got for us from the pharmacy, and this certainly did not spoil our time out there. This was our first time to Egypt, and it certainly wont be the last.
