I have just spent another 2 weeks at Lahami Bay - this is my tenth visit. I keep going back because the hotel maintains excellent standards and the snorkeling cannot be beaten in Egypt. There are so many turtles, Napoleans, rays and reef sharks that I no longer bother to photograph them! The coral is colourful, varied and in pristine condition. The beach is very natural and a family of Ospreys keep guests entertained with their fishing skills.
The rooms are large, bright and well equipped and balconies, which overlook the sea, are huge.
I have stayed at more than 30 hotels in Egypt over the years and the quality and choice of food at Lahami Bay is the best I have eaten. The buffet dinner is well served in an outside patio area.
The staff are really well-trained and efficient and friendly.
This year the gardens are spectacular and they can be seen from all the rooms. Any problems are sorted out immediately and the Front of House team are helpful and efficient.
The layout of the reefs is different from other hotels on this coast in that there is no need for a pontoon for entry to the sea as access is from the sandy beach. The main semi-circular reef takes about 75 minutes to swim around and there are 4 other reefs which are easily accessible. There are lifeguards on the beach with a rescue boat. The dive centre will take snorkelers on their day-boats and a trip to a dolphin reef 2 hours out to sea is unmissable!
The journey from the airport is long and there is nothing at all outside the hotel - you have to remember to pack everything you need! There is a library with lots of English paperbacks and internet access.
The manager, Mrs Ursula Wolfe is always around making sure that all runs like clockwork. She is very welcoming and charming and is popular with staff and guests alike.
The hotel is full of civilised guests - mostly Italian and German - Brits are a rare species!
I have already booked 2 more weeks for September - an amazing place!!

I noticed very mixed reviews on this resort and indeed you must be absoltuely sure what you are looking for to be perfectly happy. If you think you are going to spend some time in a nice, luxurious beach resort, will get to know the surroundings, have delicious food served in romantic restaurants, and have access to lovely "carribbean-style" beaches, then you got it wrong and you will write disappointed reviews, when you are back.

We (3 friends) were looking for 1 week of spectacular diving, unspoiled dive sites, professional dive center and equipment, and preferred to sleep and dine ina a resort rahther than to live a full week on a liveaboard. If that's what you are looking for, Lahamy Bay is the perfect destination for the next 3-5 years (they are building new resorts, but it will take a while to become crowded like Hurghada/Sharm al Sheik).

So: Do not compare to a Four Seasons/One&Only/Six Senses resort in Maldives (but prices are also not comparable). However, diving is spectacular (beautiful unspoiled coral gardens, more than 40 dives sites within 1 hour from marina, gorgeous house reef. In January, water was 24.5 degrees, outside air ranged from 30 degrees (midday in the sun to 15degrees (night). Personally, I would not mind 2-3-degrees warmer water temperature to be able to dive in a shorty, but don't go there in summer, as it gets very hot (40 degrees). So if I return, I will go between september and november.

This is my 7th visit to Lahami Bay and I just keep going back! The snorkeling is by far the best ever in Egypt - sharks, dolphins, eagle rays, guitar sharks and so many turtles that I have stopped photographing them!
The rooms are large and well equipped and the staff are excellent - friendly and efficient without being too chatty!
The food is still delicious and well presented and served. The General Manager, Mrs Ursula Wolf, is always friendly and very welcoming.
The hotel is filled with well-behaved Germans and Italians - there are only occasionally a few British divers.
By 10pm there is almost total silence so this may not suit all guests!
It's a real treat to stay here!!

Fantastic resort in a lovely place. Excellent service and organization. Top class diving center inside. Room very clean, large and confortable. It is not a valid location for young people looking for a night life. Very quiet hotel. Excellent food.

I have a very different experience than Adamasyn, I have been three times to this hotel in the last 6 or 7 years each time for two weeks in different periods (January, August) and I have always found staff and particularly the management very friendly and efficient. Same when I met Ms Wolf at the Boot diving fair in Dusseldorf last year.
As to the dives, I remember that the intended destinations were indicated for each boat one day in advance on the booking sheet. Of course this may need to be adapted depeding on current and weather conditions, as any diver would know. Care was given to offer divers different diving sites over one or two weeks whenever feasible and indeed there is a wide choice of splendid diving sites.
