“Great view of Denali Mountain”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 July 2014

Our group was one of the lucky 30% who saw Denali mountain in all its splendor. There were multiple buildings on the premises and a shuttle was available for those who found walking difficult. The grounds were situated high up on a hill with views towards the mountains and Denali right in the center. Our room was basic but with everything we needed for an overnight stay. I wish they supplied lotion in the bathrooms. The menu seems to be the same at all the Princess Lodges but it is tasty and well prepared. We found the service to be quite good. Never had to wait long for our food.

If you are on your way to Denali, the McKinley Lodge is a great stop to stay along the way. If is about 2 hours from Denali Park. We stayed up late in the lodge waiting for the clouds to clear the mountain top. It seems not too many people see the full Mt Mckinley. Wala, the next morning was amazing. I could have stayed all day taking pictures and viewing the beautiful full mountain view. I enjoyed sitting outside in the chairs and talking to others from around the world. There is also a nice coffee shop in the lobby to view outside. Rooms were nice, but they did not have air. We were there in May so we did not really need it. Ask for rooms near the lodge so you do not have to drive or take a shuttle. The restaurants were wonderful!

Room Tip: Ask for the building in front of the lodge.

Gorgeous views of denali gaint mountain to great food and hospitable staff. My daughter loved the ambience and the landscapes and thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommended. Much better value as compared to whAt I paid up north in the cabins.

The place is nice for a standard hotel room. The room was too hot so we turned off the heat, opened the window and turned on the fan. The bathroom hadn't been used in a while and smelled of sewer gas like the traps in the drains were empty. Ran the water and turned on the fans and went and had a beer solve most of the smell. Good for travelers with a washing machines and ice. Rooms have coffee pots. The deck at the main lodge is a good place to sit and have a snack. When Denali is out it is a nice view. Service is very very slow. They never seem to have enough waite staff. Get a beer at the bar and bring it out. The food is OK, not bad but really nothing special. There could be better snacks or things to share. It really comes down to a bowl of chips and salsa. The dip is in a bread bowl you rip apart and eat, not a good sharing. They used to serve it with bread. Nachos or a sample plater would work nice. Breakfast is dished out of hot trays in the kitchen and is barely warm if not cold. We didn't eat breakfast there this time because of past bad breakfast. The hot tubs ate open 9am to 10 pm. We would have liked a sit in the morning or later at night but we managed to be outside the hours. Hey Princess it is light 24 hrs how about 24 hours tubs. The tread mills are open 24 hours that are there. They have mosquito magnets everywhere so no bugs in the main areas. The gift shop is pretty good as tourist shops go. The lodge is spread out and they do run a shuttle around if walking is a problem. There are short hiking trails around the property.

Room Tip: I don't think you get to pick. If you drive they give you the back buildings. Eat Breakfast at...

We stayed here one night as a part of a cruise/land tour. This was one of the better Princess lodges we stayed at (surpassed only by the Kenai Wilderness Lodge). We had 3 adults and were given a large room, with a king and bunk beds, as well as a couch. The room was clean. My only complaint was no bar soap for the sink for handwashing. All staff was friendly and helpful. WE mailed back 3 boxes to our home, and the gift shop staff was very helpful with this. The hot tub area was clean and nice - two tubs with views of the mountains. This was very relaxing. The mountain was visible most of the time we were there, which made the stay very special. The grounds are a bit hilly, so if mobility is an issue, be sure to request a room close to the lodge.

My family and I took a two week trip through Alaska and parts of Canada back in May. Out of all the Lodges, Hotels, and even the Ship itself, This Lodge in McKinley was probably the worst one of of six Princess Lodges. My mom sister and I stayed in one room together. We were traveling with my sister, who is in a wheel chair. On our paperwork, It clearly stated "HANDICAPPED ROOM RESERVATION" In bold, and Highlighted. Throughout the whole trip, we were always either put in An upstairs room, (Note: Princess Lodges DO NOT have elevators) or waaay out in the boonies, in the furthest cabin away from all the other cabins, and Upstairs too. On top of all that our key cards didnt work.. When we complained to the front desk we had to wait an Hour for a new room. After a 5 hour train ride, I would really have appreciated it if I had a room when I got there. After We got our room and took a nap, I decided to go to the hot tub and relax. When I got there, Both tubs were occupied with ONE family. I left and decided to come back later. I returned about 45 Minuets later, but they were still there. Only this time they were drinking beer, smoking, and eating hotdogs IN the tub! There was this one lady who had a kid, around 4-6 years old, boy, who was running around nude! He was loud and Kept saying "Mommy, im giving 5 minuets to get out, or I will poo on you!" the adults thought it was funny, and didnt do anything. To me it was very inappropriate! After about 15 Minuets of watching all this, the family got out and left. They were obviously drunk. when they left, the water was brown! Needless to say, I didnt go in the tub. The rest of the stay was fine. The service was poor and Im not impressed.

last month I stayed at this lodge and had a wonderful time in the area. The lodge accommodations were very comfortable and the restaurants on the site were good. Employees were helpful and pleasant. The shuttle between the site and Talkeetna make is possible to visit the town and get the real flavor of Alaska.

Room Tip: Many different buildings on the property. ones closest to the Lodge are most convenient.
