On the Richardson Hwy between Glennallen and Valdez there aren't many choices for lodging. The Tiekel River Lodge reopened with new owners recently (?2009) and as everything in Valdez was full we ended up there for one night. The property consists of several small cabins with beds only, and a communal bath area (like a campground) and one bigger unit with a bunk bed and a queen, with its own full bath en suite. The units were clean, dry, and comfortable, but not fancy. Also on site is a store and a short order restaurant - our breakfast was very reasonable and very good : eggs, pancakes, waffles, bacon, coffee, juice - for only $6. We are used to camping, so we were happy with the spartan atmosphere. This is not a "hotel" experience so don't expect that. The owners are friendly, helpful, and really trying to make this place work. We would stay again!
