We were welcomed to Fred's immaculate boat in grand style. He is joined by Natasha and Natasha his charming crew. Captain Fred has a wonderful sense of humour and entertained us with many hilarious anecdotes peppered in between the information about our experience.
We saw Sea Otters almost immediately, followed closely by Sea Lions, Seals and Dolphins.
Fred steered the boat right into cave so that we could meet the beautiful Puffins that live inside.
The Glacier experience was awesome, cracking breaking and falling ice in great sheets more than 100 feet wide, seen from 1/4 mile off the face of the glacier - but feels so close. its was a fantastic day. don't be put off by rain. Alaskan weather changes all the time so you are assured some clear even sunny times during the day. Thank you Captain Fred.

We had a great time aboard the Lulu Belle. The Capt. was very knowledgeable and explained things in layman's language. The crew were great fun! Our time at the glacier was amazing. We were fortunate enough to see a very large cornice calve from the face and another huge chunk break from underwater and come surging to the surface. Wow! The only downside was something the Capt. and crew had no control over. A group very rude people were also aboard. As I said, not the crews fault. I would highly recommend this cruise.

The yacht was beautiful and the glacier worth the trip. However, Captain Fred talking or preaching for 9 hours was too much. His opinions were not what I came to hear. Notwithstanding he is knowledgeable about the area but too much of his politics so far to the right to be off the chart annoying. I wanted to jump overboard.

Captain Fred has years of experience and shares his knowledge and interesting stories throughout the trip. The sound system throughout the boat is excellent, so you're not straining to hear him. He gets within a quarter mile of the impressive Columbia glacier and patiently waits there awhile for good iceberg calving opportunities. We didn't end up seeing any whales that day, but the captain took his time to search for them and didn't rush the tour like some boats on a tight schedule. We probably had 30 people on our cruise--a small & comfortable number. The friendly staff took each family/couple/group's picture in front of the glacier using our own cameras, at no extra charge. The water in Prince William Sound was calm, presenting no problems of sea sickness. Also nice is that this is a non-smoking cruise. We liked our Major Marine cruise last year in Seward, AK (6 hr to Holgate Glacier), but this one was even better with the comfortable, smaller boat and personality of the captain! What my 8 yo & 14 yo daughters liked best was getting to steer the boat!

We almost booked the competing cruise to the Columbia glacier but fortunately ran into "Tosh" one of the mates on the LuLuBelle who convinced us that we should go out with captain Fred and his ship. What a great decision!
The LuLuBelle is a beautiful mid sized yacht with gorgeous wood interior, plenty of inside space and wonderful outside decks. Captain Fred personally helped design and build the ship which has been taking visitors to the Columbia glacier since 1980.
The trip includes multiple activities including watching commercial salmon fishing, whales, dolphins, otters, puffins, sea lions, and any other marine life sighted. The highlight, however is slowly working your way thru the icebergs into the area of the massive Columbia glacier. Once there you can spend over an hour waiting and watching for the common "calving" from the face of the glacier. Thanks to The captain's patience and ability to note minute changes in the face of the glacier we were treated to a massive spectacle. I think we were about 1/4 mile from the glacier for over an hour.
In retrospect the competition did not even come close as they keep their ship some 2 miles from the face and seemed to be in the area for much less time overall.
