“Wonderful day fishing in Valdez”

We (two couples) were nearing the end of our Alaska holiday and arrived in Valdez. The sound is so beautiful we thought we should get out on the water. Saw an ad for Dan Ureda's offerings, which offered either a dinner cruise on the Sound, or a half day salmon fishing day. After talking with Dan, it was clear he was a fisherman. After checking out the boat, we agreed to a 5-hour Sunday morning fishing trip at 8:30 for $500. That would include lunch on the boat, and Dan would fillet any salmon that we caught. We trolled in the sound and caught 20 silver (coho) salmon. Dan was working really hd the whole time, attaching lures, netting the fish we were catching, along with offering us a snack of salmon spread. His assistant was his nine year old son who was a pleasure to be with. The boat turned out to be perfect for catching salmon, with the poles on the second level and the netting on the lower deck. Lunch was grilled burgers (our choice from his offerings) and they were excellent. The only reason I am not giving Dan's charter a 5-star is that I think he was a bit stretched to do everything that he did for us. When we got in, he filleted the salmon, took us to the shop where we could have it frozen, and waited to be sure there was nothing more he could do. It was a memorable day for all of us.

We have just returned from an 8 day bareboat charter in Prince William Sound with Corsair Charters out of Valdez.

The Sound is beautiful, however the boat was not.

As a matter of fact it is a beat-up and dirty old boat from 1982 with outdated equipment, cramped cabins, broken instruments and other major safety issues too numerous to list.

In a small chop the boat rolls almost to the point of capsizing. The condition and comfort of the boat has no relation to what is described on the website or by the owner, Dan Ureda.

He demanded money up-front and vastly overcharged us for a junky and unsafe boat he falsely advertises as having "traditional luxury and comfort" amongst other untruths.

He refused to give us any kind of refund. We got screwed and have basically no recourse.
