“Great views from harbor rooms”
Reviewed 1 September 2014 via mobile

Hotel is right on the water, so the views are great and it is near all of the main restaurants and shops. Stayed one night on way to Cordova and then another night on the return from Cordova. Definitely ask for an upper room so you can leave the window open as there is no AC. Also the upper floor seemed to be quieter. Ask for a harbor view room. Parking lot can get very crowded.

Stayed July 2014, travelled as a couple

I came via ferry from Steward and arrived rather late. No problem for Best Western. I received a nice spacious room and clean big bathroom and every was clean and worked. Dinner at the hotels restaurant was accompanied by a nice view into the harbor. I had a perfect stay.

Room Tip: Rooms with harbor view are great. Ask for a room on the first floor (equals ground floor) if you h...

Choosing a Best Western you should know pretty well what to expect and that's what we got! Room good size, clean and comfortable. Well placed to stroll around harbour. Breakfast was a bit limited but usual basics there. Should be aware though that there is no lift so may need help getting luggage up the stairs but they weren't too steep or difficult.

The location is good. We stayed here because we had to catch the ferry early. The room was ok, certainly nothing special. There is no elevator, so you have to carry your suitcase up the stairs. The shower was difficult to regulate: it went from ice cold to scalding hot.

Can't comment on the breakfast, since we left before it was served.

All in all, fairly expensive for what you get.

Came here on an escorted guided tour on 7/26.

Valdez is a small fishing town (you can walk the entire town in under 45 minutes, this is not Las Vegas, Honolulu or New York City). Best Western is a worldwide chain so there are some minimum standards. One is providing a free basic breakfast (scrambled eggs or personal cheese omelets, sausage, bagels/toast, yogurt, juices, coffee, milk, cereal, canned fruit, this is Alaska...). Coffee/tea maker in the room. You can walk down to the lobby and get a cup of coffee or tea at any hour.

Local wildlife includes a colony of escaped(?) bunnies that have bred like "rabbits" (pun intended).

Located on the water front next to the Stan Stephens cruise tour. Restaurants across the street. A Safeway and an Oaken Keg liquor store plus a few more restaurants, all within easy walking range. There was a bar/restaurant next door if you do not want to explore and walk around to find something else depending on when you arrive. See Google for "restaurants near Best Western Valdez" or ask the front desk for their opinion.

Room was a bit cramped for four people. NO elevators. Two floors. Adequate parking area. Microwave and mini refrigerator. LED TV. Standard for Best Western. Clean and quiet room.

Room Tip: If you are not on a tour, ask for the sea side rooms for the view.

This motel was perfect for our needs. The room was very clean. It had an updated bathroom. It is right next to the water. We took a Stan Stephens boat tour and the office is right behind the hotel. We feel like it is the best place in town. Homer seems to be tied to fishing and I don't think fishermen are really concerned with fancy hotels, restaurants and artsy places to shop. I didn't see any of those in Homer. This hotel is basic and clean. Breakfast the next morning was fine. There was bread and cereal items, juice and milk. It was packed the first morning we went down. We had to wait in line to get in the small breakfast room. Better the next day. I don't know why people complain about breakfasts at motels. All I ever have at home is a bowl of cereal. There are many more options here. The only negative of this hotel is the lack of an elevator. But, I'm on vacation and eating more than I should, so it doesn't hurt me to go up a few steps!

Room Tip: Ask for main floor if you aren't able to carry a suitcase up the stairs.

Standard chain hotel with large rooms and we had a fridge. What sets it aside is that it excels in certain areas: it is right on the harbour and next door to where you board for Stan Stephens cruises; a good restaurant with nice views of the marina; and a cheap launderette.
