“Great Place! ”
Reviewed 19 July 2014 via mobile

We go to Whittier every year when we are in Alaska to visit family. The kids love the tunnel. This is the first time we have eaten in Whittier and we were not sorry. You MUST have the clam chowder. It was amazing. We also had the halibut and shrimp basket, crab cakes and chicken fingers. We shared it between the 5 of us and it was plenty. The service was great. We really felt welcomed. The owner was so friendly and she chatted with us between the rush. There was a cruise ship in port so they were very busy, but we got our food pretty quick. Not a lot of seating (picnic table style, right on the harbor) but it's a small place and we found a great table. The atmosphere is fun. This is a great little local place in a small fishing town. We will definitely return every year and I can't wait until next time!

“Awesome restaurant and day away from Anchorage”
Reviewed 18 July 2014

So this place was recommended to me from some folks from around town. They are known for the freshness of their seafood. Seriously, it was not a disappointment. A buddy and I came here for the 4th of July and it was such a nice time. The place is completely relaxed, unpretentious and a jeans and t-shirt type of place. You have to get the Halibut and the Shrimp Basket. It may seem a little pricey if you've not been in the state for long, however once you get out and about their prices are on par with everything else in the state. Check this place out on the pier and make it a memorable great foodie day, with amazing food and views of Prince Williams Sound!

“Fish and chips not to be missed!”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

We were catching a ferry from Whittier and arrived in the town early, so we decided to spend a little time having lunch in the Swiftwater Seafoods Restaurant. What's to like about it - just about everything! The decoration is cluttered, maritime and a lot of fun, the restaurant is a bit of a squeeze and really friendly. The lady who ran the bar - Margaret - was charming, fun and just bursting with character and, even as an Englishman, I have to admit that these fish and chips (we had cod and halibut) were absolutely among the best I have ever eaten. Fresh, beautifully cooked and delicious. This was Alaskan seafood at its best.

“Slammin burgers and fresh fried shrimp”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

Went there the first time a week ago. Slammin burgers and amazing local fresh battered and deep fried shrimp. Pasta salad a little heavy on the feta but otherwise alright. Crab cakes were yummy two bite size patties nice and crispy on the outside. Staff is very friendly and ready to take your order. The order lines are right by the front door so it gets a little hectic with a lot of people coming, going and ordering but the food came out fast and was hot and delish. Outside eating area was nice but be prepared to share seating on the inside as they have long tables with bench style seating. Good value for the price.

“The best halibut fish and chips on the planet”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

Snuck through the tunnel by car on the way from Girdwood to Seward. Didn't think we had the time, but we lucked out in a big way. The tunnel is fun in that you go through this skinny tunnel for a couple miles and come out on the other side into a land that makes you feel like you found Brigadoon. Whittier is beautiful and worth the trip in and of itself, but the food at Swiftwater is amazing. The halibut fish and chips are out of this world. The breading is light and crisp and the fish is juicy, firm and flaky all at the same time. Just a bite of heaven. Never had anything like it. The rhubarb crisp with the ice cream on top was pretty spectacular, too. And a great Alaska beer selection to boot. We sat in side at one of the long table on a misty day, but the outside seating was covered and ample. We didn't wait long coming in at 1pm on a weekday. Placed our order, sat down with a beer and the food was at our table in less than 15 minutes. This place is a total gem.
