On our recent visit to Anchorage, AK, we booked the Glacier Quest Cruise which is the shorter version of the 26 Glacier Cruise. We couldn't have asked for a better day and were very lucky to have clear blue skies. Instead of driving from Anchorage to Whittier, we took the Magic Bus Motorcoach which was well worth the money spent. Upon arrival in Whittier, we boarded the 80 foot catamaran which provided a very smooth ride. The staff was very friendly and the narration by our Forest Ranger was enjoyable. We enjoyed a lunch of fish and chips which is included in the price of the cruise. We were able to either sit outside and enjoy the beauty of the glaciers or view them from the inside through the large windows (while in the comfort of a warmer environment). We saw a few sea otters and sea lions while on the cruise. We stopped up close to several of the glaciers and had plenty of time to take photos. The amount of time spent on this cruise was just right (3 1/2 hours). I highly recommend this cruise.

This was an unforgettable experience through the various terrains of glaciers. We were able to get some truly stunning photographs. The cruise staff was very efficient and they do pack quite a few people onto these vessels. The seating is a bit awkward if you are traveling as a couple as you can be in the middle of a crowd and it is a bit stuffy inside. That being said, you have ample opportunity to get up and move about, including to the different levels to get some air and take photos. My suggestions would be focused around the meals served. They have two or three hot meal entrees and it is quite ambitious for such a big crowd--to get people all served hot food which is hot in a timely manner. They actually accomplished this in that the food was hot--but not palatable! We have some sort of hot meat sandwich that was on a huge roll. It was so unpalatable that we each didn't eat half of it. Some had fish and chips (which did not receive favorable comments from what we could overhear) and there was a vegetarian entree, that was probably the best of the lot--although nothing I would ever order. I think the crew would be better off having lunch boxes with some snacks such as fruit and vegetables, crackers and cheese, and forget the ambitious process of serving so many people a hot meal. I am not criticizing the staff as I think they did an admirable job--it was more the food itself which was not appetizing and I'm sure they did their best with it. Aside from the dining experience and the size of the crowd, the views were unforgettable and the captain was considerate about stopping to view animals or other particularly breathtaking sights. The train ride to/from Anchorage was included in our package and it was very enjoyable, indeed.

Thank you for the feedback on the meal service. We always appreciate feedback and use it to make decisions for the following season. I'm pleased to announce that in 2014 we will be serving Alaskan Amber beer battered wild Alaska cod. We will also replace the sandwich with chicken strips made from all white breast meat. We will continue with our brown rice bowl with tofu and vegetables, which is vegan, gluten free, kosher. All entrees’ come with coleslaw that we make fresh daily and Alaska Chip Company local made potato chips. The vegetarian entree comes with rice pudding in place of the potato chips. Thank you again for the comments and we hope you'll come see us again or send your friends our way when they visit Alaska. Have a nice day!

I booked the Glacier tour with Phillips 26 Glacier Cruise with my daughter and my granddaughter because we only had one day in Anchorage and I'm so glad I did the tour with them. The boat itself was terrific. The catamaran was so smooth you barely knew you were moving unless you went outside to experience what the speed feel like.
Throughout the tour there was enough time for us to take a lot pictures and the cruise actually go near enough to the Glacier for us to take gorgeous picture. The ranger guide was also very knowledge to answer any of your questions with regards to the Glacier.
The lunch was good. We all enjoyed our tour!

We booked the Glacier tour with Phillips 26 Glacier Cruise coz we only had one day in Anchorage and I'm so glad I did the tour with them. The pick up was supposed to be at Captain cook hotel only. But I make the request to be picked up at our hotel that is like 5 blocks away and they agreed to do it coz the pick up was so early.

The weather was rather gloomy that day and slightly drizzling but glad that when our cruise went out, the rain stop. Although it was still gloomy but the guide said that that's actually the best weather to catch the Glacier coz it will be bluer than when it's sunny. Throughout the 4hrs tour (on the cruise, minus the travel time to-fro hotel), there was enough time for us to take lotsa pictures and the cruise actually go near enough to the Glacier for us to take gorgeous postcard-view picture. The ranger guide was also very knowledge to answer any of your questions with regards to the Glacier.

The Fish & Chip or the Turkey sandwich lunch set (part of the package) portion was huge, filling and yummy. After lunch, they will also provide you with chocolates and freshly baked cookies as snacks. Refillable Hot/Cold (tea, coffee, Green tea, etc) water was provided. You will be allocated to seats of 4-6 pax facing each other depending on your group size, the seats are pretty comfortable for the 4hrs duration. There is two decks, I was allocated to the top deck which I thought have better view. You are also free to go out to the open 3rd and 4th deck for a closer view of the Glacier and wild life. It is really something very novel to get this close to Glacier and to see the blocks of ice floating in the water. We even managed to catch one big block of the ice just came apart and sink into the sea. During our tour, we saw black bear, eagles, otter, sealions and several other that I couldn't recognise. The cruise is very stable and quiet and never was it bumpy at all, it is however very windy and cold when you go on top of the cruise and mind your hats or scarf when you go on the top deck. Though the price is slightly costly but it's really a once in a lifetime experience, worth it.

Thank you for posting your review of our 26 Glacier Cruise on TripAdvisor.
A quick note for those reading this review - our 26 Glacier Cruise is actually 5 hours and when cruising on the M/V Klondike Express, she only has 3 decks, two with enclosed heated areas with booth style seating and a third upper deck which provides a spacious outside viewing area.

We took the Phillips 26 Glacier Cruise recently in early September. The boat itself was terrific. The twin hull catamaran was so smooth you barely knew you were moving unless you went outside to experience what 35-40 knots feel like. The staff was well organized. You get seated at a table with 4 seats, 2 people facing the other 2 people. Hopefully you'll get someone you can enjoy for the next 6 hours. They served the sandwich lunch right away which tasted okay. Drinks (except for water) are extra. The did provide an option of getting a souvenir plastic cup that allowed for free refills. We had so-so weather but the captain tried his best to show us the glaciers and the ranger doing the narrative was entertaining. The sights were excellent. Well worth the trip. We saw a couple of small calvings of some glaciers, lots of seals, sea otters and birds. Beautiful blue (and green) water full of floating ice chunks with lots of scenery and lots of waterfalls. We got to travel to where a glacier once resided but has now receded over a mile away in the last few years but that their GPS map shows the boat driving on a glacier. The photos do not do justice on how really beautiful this place is.

Thank you for posting your review on TripAdvisor and sharing some of the photos from your trip, especially the first one that shows the tall spires of glacier ice that look like they could calve at any moment. Have a great day!
