Book this cruise for a great close-up view of glaciers and Alaskan wildlife. Comfortable indoor seating; a great on-board bar. Lunch was so-so...would recommend bringing your own sandwiches / snacks from Subway.

“Great scenery and overall experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2013

If you are in the Anchorage or Whittier areas and have half a day open for an activity, I highly recommend this cruise. NOTE: We also took the "Magic Bus" shuttle from Anchorage to the boat in Whittier and highly recommend this service also....we did not have to worry about driving in an unknown area plus the driver Greg was very informative about wildlife and scenery we saw along the way and told us lots of Alaska facts.

It was clear and sunny that day and everyone said how exceptional the weather was that day. All the scenery we saw along the cruise was just beautiful. The captain and tour guides were all very helpful and informative, plus they even had a US Parks employee on board to assist with the tour narration. We did get up close to come glaciers and got to see some of the ice fall off the glacier into the water. It sounded like a pop, then like a dump truck dumping gravel.

A nice fish & chips lunch was provided plus plenty of complimentary coffee and hot drinks to keep you warm during the cruise! I may have indulged in a beer or two as well just for fun.

The main wildlife we saw that day on the cruise were some otters and an eagle.

Its a scenic location in general to be on the water, and if you have never seen glaciers up close I highly recommend you spend an afternoon on this tour. You will not be disappointed!

“Up Close and Personal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2013

On our recent visit to Anchorage, AK, we booked the Glacier Quest Cruise which is the shorter version of the 26 Glacier Cruise. We couldn't have asked for a better day and were very lucky to have clear blue skies. Instead of driving from Anchorage to Whittier, we took the Magic Bus Motorcoach which was well worth the money spent. Upon arrival in Whittier, we boarded the 80 foot catamaran which provided a very smooth ride. The staff was very friendly and the narration by our Forest Ranger was enjoyable. We enjoyed a lunch of fish and chips which is included in the price of the cruise. We were able to either sit outside and enjoy the beauty of the glaciers or view them from the inside through the large windows (while in the comfort of a warmer environment). We saw a few sea otters and sea lions while on the cruise. We stopped up close to several of the glaciers and had plenty of time to take photos. The amount of time spent on this cruise was just right (3 1/2 hours). I highly recommend this cruise.

“Magnificent Views from a Very Swift Catamaran”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2013

This was an unforgettable experience through the various terrains of glaciers. We were able to get some truly stunning photographs. The cruise staff was very efficient and they do pack quite a few people onto these vessels. The seating is a bit awkward if you are traveling as a couple as you can be in the middle of a crowd and it is a bit stuffy inside. That being said, you have ample opportunity to get up and move about, including to the different levels to get some air and take photos. My suggestions would be focused around the meals served. They have two or three hot meal entrees and it is quite ambitious for such a big crowd--to get people all served hot food which is hot in a timely manner. They actually accomplished this in that the food was hot--but not palatable! We have some sort of hot meat sandwich that was on a huge roll. It was so unpalatable that we each didn't eat half of it. Some had fish and chips (which did not receive favorable comments from what we could overhear) and there was a vegetarian entree, that was probably the best of the lot--although nothing I would ever order. I think the crew would be better off having lunch boxes with some snacks such as fruit and vegetables, crackers and cheese, and forget the ambitious process of serving so many people a hot meal. I am not criticizing the staff as I think they did an admirable job--it was more the food itself which was not appetizing and I'm sure they did their best with it. Aside from the dining experience and the size of the crowd, the views were unforgettable and the captain was considerate about stopping to view animals or other particularly breathtaking sights. The train ride to/from Anchorage was included in our package and it was very enjoyable, indeed.

Thank you for the feedback on the meal service. We always appreciate feedback and use it to make decisions for the following season. I'm pleased to announce that in 2014 we will be serving Alaskan Amber beer battered wild Alaska cod. We will also replace the sandwich with chicken strips made from all white breast meat. We will continue with our brown rice bowl with tofu and vegetables, which is vegan, gluten free, kosher. All entrees’ come with coleslaw that we make fresh daily and Alaska Chip Company local made potato chips. The vegetarian entree comes with rice pudding in place of the potato chips. Thank you again for the comments and we hope you'll come see us again or send your friends our way when they visit Alaska. Have a nice day!
