“Beautiful, but check your bill!”
Reviewed 9 February 2007

We were part of a group, staying there because of an event at the nearby Rawhide. All of us loved the atmosphere - beautiful grounds, many beautiful pools, waterslide, golf course, spa, and very friendly staff. There is even a Native American story teller every night by the fire pit. The hotel was an easy ride from the airport, but very secluded feeling on the reservation. The views of the mountains in the background were beautiful! Peaceful and beautiful setting and very comfortable rooms.

The only complaint we all had was the strange charges on all of our bills!!! Make sure you check your bill. There were so many huge unexplained charges! Although they were very helpful in changing the charges, it took a lot of time to check out, and it happened to all of us.

The Wild Horses Resort and Spa won us from the moment we arrived. Excellent bellman service. Our bellman spoke to us the entire way to the room explaining the things about the resort and what it had to offer. We had just come from the "The Biltmore" in Phoenix and had been greatly disappointed.
The grounds, rooms and service were exceptional. Everyone from the maintenance crew to the maids looked us in the eye and spoke to us no matter where we went on the grounds or in the hotel. Everyone acted as though they LOVED their job. Both my husband and I each run a seperate business and were intrigued by how the resort could accomplish such continuity in five star service throughout their organization. All we can say is BRAVO for you have done what all service oriented companies strive for. The Wild Horses Resort is five star all the way and we are tough to please in customer service.

This is a great hotel with absolutely fabulous staff - we stayed in January while my husband took one of the courses at Bondurant race track - absolutely the closest hotel for that activity and the hotel staff took him down to the race track and picked him up each day. Wonderful HEATED pool (yes, in January it is chilly!), so playing in the pool was great for the kids - the waterslide was great fun and it felt like sliding into a hot tub - very cool!! The hotel was quite deserted the first week of January - mostly people there for a conference and there was so much space that it felt we were there all alone! The restaurants are best for couples, really inadequate for family fare as they are very high end and almost no selections for kids - we ended up driving to Chandler mall (which is a great place) to eat. They have a river that runs through the hotel and down to the casino - we took the free boat shuttle around that, but it is not staffed by hotel employees and the shuttle operators are rather rude, to say the least! Not much to do out at this hotel other than golf , gamble and lay by the pool. They have tennis courts and a health club, but they require "additional fees" that are quite expensive.... Went horseback riding - arranged by the hotel and had a great time - highly recommend this activity! Overall I would very much recommend this hotel, but probably mostly for couples looking for a five-star romantic get-away!

WHP is your typical resort. It is part of the Starwood Hotels and is on an Indian Reservation. There is a casino on the property which is a walk from the actual hotel. They do provide a boat service to take you there. The pool area is nothing special in fact they can re-design that area to make it more appealing. There are 3 restaurants and some shops on the lower levels of the hotel. The rooms are so spread out that it can literally take you 15 minutes to reach the lobby by walking to one end to the other - not very convienent. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were very clean. The room size was standard, they each have a small balcony and the bathrooms have both a shower and tub, larger than most. If you are planning to travel to downtown Phoenix, you are about 30 miles away which if you don't have a rental car be prepared to pay. The airport is about a half an hour away.

We stayed here on Sheraton Points for 2 nights last weekend. The hotel rates are very expensive, so we wouldn't usually stay at a property like this (thank you to points!). First of all the hotel staff are some of the nicest that we have met through our travels.

The hotel is nicely located out of the way in Chandler on the southern border of Phoenix on the Gila River Indian Reservation. The hotel is centered around the Indian heritage and educating visitors on their culture and history. The hotel is tastefully decorated with many artifacts, beautiful paintings, and historical photos. The rooms themselves are pretty good, but not totally what expected for a >$400 a night hotel - still felt a little Sheraton-y.

For activities, besides the pools, there is a casino (adjacent property) as well as golf course, spa, and the Koli Equestrian Center. (We highly recommend an afternoon horseback ride in the desert - $65 for 1.5 hrs.) The hotel has a good dirt jogging trail that runs near the golf course. The hotel is also located near South Mountain where you can hike, bike, go horseback riding, and sightsee. We recommend a ride out there to check out the desert.

We had dinner one night at Kai - which was more of a dining experience than a meal. It was expensive, but so worth it! The staff were very knowledgeable and the meals were impeccable (with a southwestern/Indian heritage twist). One of the other restaurants, Ko'sin was very good and room service was also an unexpected treat. There is also a bar located at the ground floor.

We had a great time here and are definately planning on returning.

  • Liked — Kai restaurant and horseback riding
  • Disliked — rooms were nicely decorated but still felt somewhat like a standard Sheraton hotel room

I was only here for a very short time (less than 24 hours), but I could have stayed several days. Had a starwood preferred room, and it was beautiful and comfortable. Several pools, so hopefully if you wanted a pool without screaming children you could find one.
I really, really hate the fact that a hotel at this price point does not provide free Wifi, but otherwise I had no complaints.

We stayed at this hotel for a few nights in November on the first leg of a 10 day tour of Arizona with our 10 and 6 year old children.

Admittedly the hotel is on the pricey side, but, the service was so good we decided to cancel another hotel and return for the last night of our holiday.

The hotel was practically empty - and us hardy Scots took advantage of the empty (heated) pools and water slide, staying out to watch the sun set and sip Margaritas in the hot tub. Whilst the surrounding views aren't on par with Sedona or Grand Canyon, it is really quiet, well landscaped and picturesque. We have some stunning sunset photos.

The rooms were more than adequate for the 4 of us, clean and well presented. Only one thing, we were placed next to a suite - if I had been that couple on a romantic weekend, I wouldn’t have appreciated a family next door.

We had our first evening meal in the hotel restaurant. The kids menu is on an etch-a-sketch, which is a neat little touch - it kept ours entertained, and the staff were great in their interaction with them. Our eldest wanted a 'virgin' margarita, and they presented one with not even a blink of an eye for ‘Madame’....the meal and the wine were outstanding, again pricey, but hey, we were on vacation. Sunday Brunch Buffet was fantastic too, as was the 'regular' breakfast option on weekdays. We ordered room service on our last night and the filet mignon was exceptional. The kids report the chicken was 'fab'.

If you have the chance, go on a horse back ride at the equestrian centre. We had 2 guides to ourselves and the 3.30pm ride meant that we were coming back just as the sun set - more pictures, and the interaction with the kids was great again.

Nothing was too much for the smiling staff – getting doors opened for you all day is definitely the way to vacation, the kids being referred to as ‘Sir’ and ‘Madame’ was a highlight for them. The staffs attitude meant our stay was wonderfully relaxing, even if a little extravagant – but so enjoyed that we will definitely be returning.

  • Liked — The pool setting
  • Disliked — The hotel is sprawled out - our room was quite a walk.
