This is likely the Sonoita regions least impressive tasting room interior. (Its a barn/warehouse/factory with the ambiance of unfinished insulation.) However, look past all that....

Kent Callaghan has some of the most interest wines in the Sonoita region. While reds are his biggest specialty, his white's are my favorites and I have purchased more than one case over the years.

As with all Sonoita region wineries, the cost of tasting (and bottles) have exploded during the past couple of years. (No more $3 tastings.) Don't forget that after you buy a glass from your first winery, the other wineries offer a discount when you bring that glass with you.

The wine was good. I respect the work any vineyard puts into its product.

As far as tripadvisor is concerned, when making Callaghan part of your trip the setting prevents this from being an excellent stop.

Inside is like a warehouse, it smells like wine which is nice. The tasting area s the front 1/4 or so of the building. It was crowded the day we went, that's fine, not gonna knock the place for that.
However, there is no seating, no outdoor area. that's all fine too. Callaghan probably ships out most of their products. I was happy to taste their wines, but coming here isn't a satisfying trip.

If your plan to visit as many vineyards as possible, then by all means make the quick stop and check them out.

We were fortunate to come across this winery while driving around south of Tucson. If this winery is representative of the standard of wine making in Arizona, I am impressed. We really enjoyed our tasting, and a few of the reds were especially noteworthy. The "Claire's 2009" was a standout and we bought a bottle to take home (because we will never see Arizona wine at the store in Ontario!). The tasting room is very simple - nothing flashy, but that's OK, best to invest in making the best wine possible.

The Callaghan Vineyards tasting room is a rustic, one room ware(house) that serves up good wine with a smile. As you taste delicious reds from a knowledgeable employee (or friend) it is hard to tell if people are "working" or just helping out, you can see boxes used for shipping out the tasty imbibements, sparkly décor hanging from the ceiling, sunflowers sprinkled around, and the barrels containing the wine you are consuming. As a guest, you feel part of the process. My husband and I purchased a bottle and proceeded to the front porch to enjoy it with a few snacks we had brought along. There is limited seating from what I could see but the vineyard was not very busy on this day so we were able to find seating on a bench and used a barrel for a table. We met fellow wine lovers who also really appreciated Callaghan wine. It was a wonderful experience and we can't wait to return and bring friends! P.S, Bring your AZ Wine card with you to receive discounts from Sonoita/Elgin Vineyards.
