“Comfort close to North Rim of the GC”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 February 2014

We could not get reservations at the Grand Canyon Lodge, so we stayed here. We were glad for the trip advisor reviews that recommended this inn. It was great to check in to a comfortable, air conditioned room after spending the afternoon in the heat at the GC. The cabins looked nice, but we wanted a room with a/c. The onsite restaurant was average, but the service was slow at dinner and breakfast.

Room Tip: The even numbered rooms face the forest; the odd numbered rooms face the parking lot. We were lucky...

We stayed in a cabin for the sheer pleasure of it. NO TV, NO PHONES, NO INTERRUPTIONS!
We loved the old cabins and tiny bathrooms, they reminded us of days long ago. We loved sitting outside our cabin watching children and families enjoy the nice play ground. The food was wonderful in the dining room and at the counter and their cookies are the BEST you will find anywhere and the staff members were always friendly! We enjoyed hiking right out of our cabin door and mountain biking on the many forest service roads in the area. We are headed back next week for Valentines day and wish the Cabins were open in the winter! I sure hope they have SNOW! Glad they are they only place in town...keeps in quaint and cozy!

Room Tip: Come with an open mind and adventurous spirit and you will enjoy any of their accommodations!

We tried booking a room outside the North Rim on the road. I found the location on my Ipad (Verizon), but couldn't book from the website. My phone (Sprint) didn't have service in the area. We were stopped at a Sonic for a meal and a local let us use his phone to book the last room for the night!

We absolutely loved this location. It reminded my husband and I of the kind of places we stayed as kids growing up, our teenagers loved it as well. Great little shop. Good food served at the breakfast counter. The staff was lovely. We would return in a heartbeat.

The only difficult part of the stay was watching so many people pull up to discover there was no room at the Inn and have to drive off in the dark searching for a place to stay. I was thisclose to letting a family from Europe stay with us!

Thanks so much for your kind review. We are glad to have been able to accommodate you and agree it is hard to watch people drive away with no place to stay. Please come back and see us again soon. We are glad you enjoyed the food and gift shop.

When you're approaching the Grand Canyon from the north you will not find a lot of options for accommodation on the way. But despite the lack of competition the Jacob Lake Inn does not disappoint. Yes, there's a hotel building with WiFi and who knows what, but what makes the place so charming is the cabins in the forest just off the highway. Gas powered range heating if needed, wooden furniture and paneling throughout, a tiny desk and a small bathroom: there's your rustic cabin for you. No TV, no internet and (at least for me) no cell phone signal either. For one night? I loved it! And don't forget to stop by their souvenir shop / restaurant / diner / convenience store - a whole mall really under just one roof - for a couple of their delicious cookies.

Thank you for your kind review. We are so glad you enjoyed staying at Jacob Lake Inn. We know that our cabins are rustic and hope as finances allow to replace them. In the meanwhile it is nice that you got into the spirit of the place. We hope you come and see us again.

Travelling in December and the sun went down before we could reach the Grand Canyon, so rather than head back to Vegas we decided to stay the the night. Really friendly staff and great food if you're not expecting Gordon Ramsay. Tasty cafe food and no issues even though I'm pretty sure we were possibly the only guests there that night. Stayed in the 2-storey building out back, it was a fine, remote-hotel basic sort of room for a reasonable price (about $80 IIRC). It was a great stop for us and thankfully still running even though everything around was closed, including the north road to the canyon due to snow.

You are correct in saying that we are the only place open on the Kaibab Plateau in December. Because the North Rim of Grand Canyon closes for the winter, travel is slow and very few people come our way. We are glad we were able to give you a place to stay for the night. We hope you will come again when we are fully open, offer our full menu and assortment of cookies, merchandise, etc. Thanks for your review.

My husband and I and our two dogs travel between PHX and SLC about once or twice a year and try different routes. Since we enjoy the more scenic route through Kanab we usually stay at either the Cliff Dwellers or Vermillion Cliff's, although I have always wanted to stay at Jacob's Lake. This trip we did stay for one night in a cabin, which apparently are the only dog friendly rooms. I am so glad we did stay. The cabin was not luxury but it was so much nicer and roomier than many of the reviews I read. We were in Number 6 with two queen beds. The beds were much more comfortable than I expected although the pillows were really flat. The room was very warm when we arrived (we actually had the turn the heat down). The deck was nice outside and the room had a small table and chairs for our snacks and beverages. The Inn provides free ice to guests when the store is open. The restaurant was ok, the burgers were cheap but the salad was expensive..odd. The bathroom was super tiny but we didn' come for luxury or to stay long. The cabin did not have a coffee maker which was the only down side and there are no outside fires allowed which was the biggest disappointment. We are backcountry campers so this was a lot nicer and the price was fair unless you'd rather sleep on the ground:) We will stay again unless we stay longer in which case we will camp!

Room Tip: Cabin was roomy and quiet.

Thank you for staying at Jacob Lake Inn. We do welcome pets in some rooms, which is becoming difficult to do as allergies seem to be more and more prevalent. We have had guests request that we not rent the room they are reserving for three days and do elaborate cleaning in preparation for them because of allergies. We are glad you enjoyed your time with us and hope you will come back.

The room walls are paper thin. You will hear folks in the next room talk ,snore, fart etc.We stayed for three nights and each night was steady interruptions. The wall heater kicks in and out all night long and sounds like a car engine turning on. Jacob Lake Inn is the only game in town and thus, the pricing is high. You should avoid staying here.

Room Tip: Don't stay at this establishment !
