“Worth a Stop--Don't Blink, You'll Miss It!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2013

Just north of the Douglas Mansion, you'll find this little gem of an area that helps the mine-challenged understand just how far underground miners go to work. It's fenced, but free when open. Plexiglas or not, I just couldn't stand over the shaft opening, so call me a wimp! This is an attraction for both kids and adults.

“Fun short stop”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 October 2013

It was really interesting to look down a mining shaft as well as see various mining equipment---some of which had been used until relatively recently. Nice industrial photos to take.

“5 minutes visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 September 2013

Not much is here. It is worth a visit if you are in the area. Nice view into the mine from above through a glass floor. Gives you an idea of what mining was like 100 years ago.

“MUST SEE!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 September 2013

This was great and is located right before the Douglas Mansion. You can actually stand above the mine on clear glass and look down 1900 feet. HOLY COW< i am so afraid of heights and loved it! It has ramps on both sides so if it is hard for you to walk, you can still enjoy it!

“Amazing History”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2013

The headframe is close to the Douglas Mansion State Park, so you can see both in one trip. Lots of old mining equipment at the headframe, Thinking about going into the mine in the one person elevator was scary. What is really amazing is looking straight down into the shaft and then reading that the shaft is down as far as the Empire State Building is high--wow!
