“Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed 18 April 2013

The sunday lunches that we have had here are fantastic, the variety of food in the buffet and the deserts are absolutely delicious. the service is great and the floor manager is a very pleasant person. The tables in the dining room when seated you have a fabulous view of the sea it is peaceful and you can really relax and enjoy your meal. overeating is the only problem.

Room Tip: front rooms have the sea view

the carpets in the room were a bit dirty but overall the hotel was very clean and well kept. the maid service was late in returning our towels though, especially since we hadn't even left them on the floor. nice bar and sea views, the area is a bit too quiet.

Room Tip: balcony ocean view! Rooom 302 or 4...not sure

I spent three nights here attending a business conference. Checking in was quick and the staff friendly and professional. My ocean-facing room on the 4th floor was fairly small, and, unlike most, did not have a balcony. That didn't really bother me though. However, the air-conditioner didn't work properly, which was really a concern in the humid heat of East London in February. I reported this the next morning. When the fault couldn't be fixed right away, I was upgraded to a suite on the same floor; I had a really spacious, comfortable apartment with a lounge aria, refrigerator (not a minibar) and a very large balcony overlooking the ocean and harbour. When I returned to the room later in the day there was a plate of fruit and snacks plus a voucher for a complimentary drink at the bar. I was really impressed by this prompt and generous response to my complaint about the faulty AC in the first room.

The buffet lunch and breakfast were adequate but unremarkable. The rooms and public areas were clean and well-maintained, although the building needs some paint and renovation on the outside. I was disappointed that the TV had no international news channels like BBC World or CNN. On the whole I found the staff to be very friendly and courteous, but of course, you get what you give.

The aria around the hotel is said to be somewhat unsafe, especially at night. Personally I had no problems and never felt uncomfortable when talking walks in the neighbourhood, but I would advise women to take care, and probably not to go out alone after dark.

I would certainly stay here again.

Having spent a great part of the year at this hotel, I have come to appreciate the charming and welcome attitude of the front office especially the ladies. I have made it a second home due to the care and concern

As a Virtual Tour Photographer we almost live in Hotels and feel that this Hotel is a real Gem within East London. Perfectly Situated close to the Beach, absolutely great Views and really friendly and helpful staff. The staff Member that stuck out for me and was always willing to help was Daniel. The breakfast and dinner buffet had a very wide selection and the food was really good quality. All in all I would definitely return and would recommend the hotel to anyone who truly wants to experience the beauty of East London.

When my Company booked us in this hotel , i feel great . Regent hotel staff are friendly and welcoming , their rooms are great clean , well done to housekeeping staff. Their food is excellent .
I am very disappointed with these silly comments about this hotel . I was in this hotel last week , there is nothing wrong about this hotel . This people i think the competitors bribe them to bad mouth this hotel . About unfriendly staff i think these guys want you to jump and kiss their bats , it is excellent what you doing so far. I love this hotel , it is the best hotel travelers , don't listen to this madness this is East London not London . Next time if you have so high expectations please book a 5 star hotel next to the 3 star not a 3 star and expect a 5 star service . Come on travelers get real . About the wifii not everyone knows about it in South Africa its 2 / 10 , also you must check our history abut technology in this country we are way behind . Regent staff and management keep up the good work , take only constructive criticism out of these reviews , this hotel is always fully booked , if this nonsense was true how can this hotel be so full every day?

Room Tip: "Higher floors have less A/C unit noise"

The hotel is perfectly located for conference attendees and had a fantastic view. Service and cleanliness needs urgent attention. Carpets and upholstry looks like it was very dirty, got wet and was left to dry, now it's stained and it looks horrible. Rooms are spacious but is old. Noise from shouting staff woke me up every morning around 5am. Rude reception and room service staff ruined good service given by bar lady and breakfast chef. This hotel has so much potential, but it has to be managed better.
