“Amazing family safari experience”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

Just spent the most fantastic 3 nights at Bucklands with our 3 kids aged 10,9 and 7

Terry and Michelle were great hosts and we just loved the game drives , amazing animals, stunning scenery, lovely food, drinks round the fire under the stars, etc

Particular mention to our guide Craig who took us on a great quad bike safari - during which we came across two different groups of rhino - also fishing for the afternoon and fielding endless questions from the kids who got so much from this experience largely due to his enthusiasm and knowledge - many thanks Craig

The tents were very comfortable and it was good for the kids to have the pool to let off steam and cool down

A wonderful family adventure

I've been here twice now and both times the level of service, quality of food, presentation of rooms and the guides' knowledge has been first class. I first came on a recommendation from Rob and Marianne Field that run Panorama guest house, where I stay in Port Alfred. They recommended it on the basis of the excellent food and that there's a waterhole right where you stay so you get to see the animals the minute you wake up -the last trip I woke up to see the mum and baby rhino getting their early morning drink, a very special moment.

Although it is very reasonably priced for what it offers, for my budget (and my sister-who joined me for this part), it's a bit of an extravagance - both times the stay has been made possible by taking advantage of the offers Bucklands sometimes have -I now am on their emailing list so I get the alerts for them that way.

The next trip I want to try out their 'slackpacking' option where I think you camp 1 or 2 nights and stay in the lodge on the third as I've seen good feedback from other people on their fb page, so watch this space!

Room Tip: I haven't stayed yet in it, but will request next time the room at the end of the terrace as the...

We loved our stay : One of the best parts was our guide Dylin who is extremely knowledgable and made time for the extra things : Also Ian who took us really close to the Rhinos. What an amazing experience and thanks to the whole team at Bucklands.

If you want to be spoilt by the hospitality and splendid food take time off from the SA coast and visit Bucklands . A small reserve which offers family personal service and comfort. It is easily reached from Port Elizabeth and makes a welcome break from the ordinary stop-overs.

Room Tip: Stay in the lodge "upstairs" or take a front room.

We cannot speak highly enough of the 'family Stewart' team- 2 nights in the extremely luxurious luxury tents followed two previous nights at a more standard 'big five ' resort- because of this the stay was tailored to our needs perfectly- night drive, walking safari, quad bike safari, visit to old frontier fort and fishing on the Big Fish River- and we all caught something! Two ten year olds were accommodated with an ease and friendliness that was natural and welcomed, Iain our ranger and one of the family was fantastically knowledgeable and shared it with all of us generously, including the great night skies and stars- he even offered to give my wife and I a sleep in whilst taking the boys quad biking and fishing but I didn't want to miss out on the quad bikes! Food was excellent and professional, sun downers at the fire with family, fascinating to hear how they have got to where they are - Good luck and well deserved success should be ahead of you- We would all recommend this resort wholeheartedly and will be back! Plenty to do and see.

Room Tip: Tents truly luxurious- as good as any hotel room 5*
