The Long Table is only open during the annual National Arts Festival (aka Grahamstown Festival) in July. The menu is designed for fast service: reasonably tasty food, nothing special. The main point of going there is to meet people as you find a cross-section of festival-goers, performers and stallholders. The best time to meet the last category is if you go on the last day, when the market stalls have all closed, and the stallholders who haven’t left in a hurry at last have some time to unwind.
