Sun screen, hat and sunglasses are also good items to pack. Camera’s and other gadgets are allowed on board at your own risk. What will I be doing? Exploring the coastline and rich waters in and around our bay, searching for whales, dolphins, seals, sharks, seabirds and more. Come on a voyage of discovery as you search for Plettenberg Bays majestic creatures of the deep. What will I see? Our climate is changing and these changes seem to be affecting our marine life, in particular the Southern Rights. Over the past two years, sightings of Southern Right whales have dropped, but we see more Brydes and Humpbacks than before. Our dolphin sightings are awesome and include the playful Bottlenose, energetic Commons and the highly endangered Humpbacked dolphins. A variety of sea birds are sighted as well as the ever growing Cape Fur seal population. We see many different animals that come into our bay to say hello. Particular species cannot be guaranteed as these animals are being viewed in their natural environment but times of year can depict their occurrence. This is a true “seafari” and every one is different, you never know what you will find …. How will I know what to look for? Highly qualified and experienced marine guides aboard will guide you through the different species you are likely to encounter, showing you how to identify them and where to look. They will be on hand to answer any questions you might have, talk about the history, geology and wildlife during your adventure! What about the boats? Due to rough seas our boat trip was delayed a couple of days however we were kept well informed on the sea conditions and when they expected to take the boat out next. We only saw one whale which spent most of it's time lying very still near the surface, not quite the display we were hoping for! We did however follow a pod of dolphins for quite some time who were playing and jumping in the breaking waves.

We really wanted to get up close to see some Southern Right Wales but thought if we didn't, this would be a fun boat ride on the Indian Ocean. Coming from Texas, no matter what, this was going to be a treat. It turned out to be more than we anticipated. Lloyd Chapman, our boat captain found wales...lots of wales! The photography opportunities were incredible. Our boat was perfect and not at all crowded. Must also mention that we some young children on board. Jean, an attendant with Ocean Safari was more than helpful in insuring that all were safe, comfortable and enjoying the experience. Even the kids went away with a memorable whale watching experience.

All of the folks at Ocean Safari were professional, friendly and attentive to us in every way. Karen and I give them a four thumbs up recommendation. This is the absolute best whale watching service in South Africa. What the heck...perhaps the universe!

Can you tell, we had fun.

Ocean Safaris are the whale watchers of the area, they have a 100% sightings record, they are so good, I chose to go with them a second time. The boats are comfortable and provide great vantage points for photography.Everyone was warm and welcoming. Most importantly, they were excellent around the animals, giving us great views without bothering the whales.
The first whales that we sighted we were unable to get close too as they all had calves and the skipper moved away immediately, it was pleasing to see the environmental guidelines so strictly adhered to. As we moved along the coast however we finally arrived just off Keurboomstrand and were amazed at the number dolphins surfing in the waves.
All we can say is what a fantastic experience provided by knowledgeable and very friendly staff – Thank you!

Watching whales is an unique experience. We saw two mothers with her calve. They were breaching and flippering, so amazing that we could watch this without harassing the beautiful animals.

So it was my wife's birthday and our first activity of the day is Whale Whatching..
Its my very first time out at sea,so don't know what to expect.after launching we went past robberg beach with a nice view of the long white beach enroute to robberg peninsula.
At robberg peninsula there were thousands of seals..diving,swimming,sun bathing and just being lazy in the sun.Saw an elephant seal too..it is huge!!
At the far point of the peninsula close to(whale rock)we had sights of about 6 whales..my 1st ever!! The presence of the whales so close to us puting on a show is an experience you can't write about, you just gotta see it for yourself!! Respect the creatures of the sea!
