Sue offers a superb service. We were welcomed late at night, shown around and within reason had all our needs met. They were responsive to our complaints which gave us a really good feeling and it really felt like she went out of her way to make us feel comfortable and at home. Tranquil, quiet and picturesque. Perfectly situated away from the huddle and bustle but close enough to enjoy it at your own bidding. We won two nights here as a prize and so feel doubly thankful for this incredible getaway. Thank you Sue!!

What a Shangri-La Bitou River Lodge proved to be, during our recent trip along the Garden Route. The setting is so peaceful, and a bird lover's paradise. The accommodation is superb, with such an eye to detail, including evening bed turndown with chocolate included. Breakfast is not to be missed-and Sue will plan your day for you, if requested. We hope to get back.

The setting is like an il painting. Absolute stunning and some great birding opportunities. Close enough to town yet seems like you are completely isolated. The family that runs it are lovely and very friendly.
Breakfasts are incredible too! Don't miss the scones!

Sue really looks after her guests and that is why we always go there and nowhere else. Great breakfast, enough for all day, comfortable rooms, Wi-Fi and 3 lovely dogs and 1 cat to make the stay pleasant. Enjoy a self-propelled kayak trip on the river or relax and enjoy the bird watching. Easy access to Plettenberg Bay restaurants and the golf courses.

Room Tip: All rooms face the river and have a braai area

this last april we spent 3 nights at this BEAUTIFUL HOMEY b&b.
we were a family with three children of very different ages 2-14, and each one of them had a memorable experience ! 2 adjacent rooms were a perfect setup our teenager couldn't get over the beautiful rooms ;)
sue is a warm and helpful host with impeccable taste which pops up in every corner of the estate.
the breakfasts were by far the best we had had !!
next time in SA we'll be sure to stay again :)

Room Tip: all rooms are identical in location , view, size and decor. all are great!

A great 3 day stay in beautiful rooms where nothing is too much trouble for Sue and her staff. I was ill for part of the stay and they could not have been kinder . My partner went out with the local bird guide and was treated to an osprey catching a fish which he managed to photograph. The in room fridge was welcome for supplies to supplement the braii pack we got from Sue, just the right amount of meat for two- the South Africans in my family tend to over face us! We love the solar lamps and the blue cranes which have bred locally this year.
Bitou River exemplifies what B and B hospitality is all about and Sue is a great role model and example for landladies all over the world.
Would love to return one day.

Photos do not do justice to this wonderfully peaceful guest house. From the delicious breakfasts to Sue's individual attention to detail - everything was perfect. To wake up to the view of the river and sounds of bird life was so relaxing and a marvellous break from our stressful lives. We will certainly visit again - and could easily have stayed a while longer.
