“Affordable accommodation on the river.”
Reviewed 28 August 2013

Stayed 2 nights, very pleasant way to explore Plettenberg bay and surroundings. Maria and Happy were very friendly and helpful. Beautiful views of the Bitou en Keurbooms River. Lots of birdlife to watch. We were treated with a bodum of fresh coffee and muffins in our room in the morning. Room 5 has a open shower which is very unpractical. Pack warm clothes winter months, because it is on the river it is very cold in the rooms at night.

Room Tip: Room 5,6 & 7 spacious with very good views.

We stayed over one night on our way to PE. What a beautiful place. The room was big and spacious with an open bath and shower. We had a 4 Poster bed with white linen and an electrical blanket. Our room had a very nice view from the wooden deck towards the river. The accommodation is really affordable. Breakfast is not included in the price but we were woken up with a fresh muffin and filter coffee the next moring. The room did not have a kettle or coffee facility but in the lounge they had coffee and tea facility where you write up what you drink - a honesty bar. It was our first stay but we will be back. We can highly recommend this accommodation.

I needed a quick overnight stay. Plett River Lodge is just of the the main N2, so if you want to move quickly this is ideal. I see that some travellers disliked being fairly close to the main road, but to be quite honest the dull thud of the waves from the beach is louder than the traffic noise. I slept well. The rooms are neat, clean and modern. There is a TV in the room but no fridge or tea service in the room, however there is dining room which has free facilities to make your own tea, coffee and even a honesty fridge for soft drinks. I drove the 2km's to the mall and bought some food which I heated in their dining area. They had utensils. There is staff to assist from 7:30 to 20:00 in this reception area. PS you can purchase a muffin for breakfast if you wish. So this is something like between a self-catering establishment, but without the kitchen facilities in each room.
I paid R500 (with breakfast) for a single person at a B&B closer to town the week before. The room at Plett River Lodge was R270 for single and R540 for shared. So this really good value for money. I did not see anything in a 4 star range in Plett that comes near to this - Most are around R500 upwards for single accommodation.

Room Tip: Rooms 5, 6 and 7 are ground floor and at the end of the building with river views

This place is stunning, we can not understand that anyone can say anything bad or negative about the Plettenberg River Lodge. It is absolutely beautiful and relaxing. Maria was a stunning host from the moment we got there, till we left. The rooms are beautiful, great furniture with an amazing view. We had a romantic sunset braai on the deck, the continental breakfast was perfect, everything to choose from, we couldn't even finish it or try everything. We will most definitely go out of our way to go there again. We showed the pictures to all our friends and highly recommend it to everyone. We live in Hermanus and are already planning the next trip with our friends.

We stayed overnight at this hotel. Although I had emailed at least 2 weeks before to confirm our booking when we arrived it appeared our booking was missing. It had somehow moved to the following day. Luckily there was a room available. It was perfectly OK..comfortable bed, clean sheets and a nice view of the river but the proximity to the highway wasn't pleasant. The breakfast was appalling with awful margarine, horrid bread and generally just inedible. This would be fine as a budget backpackers joint but what we paid it should have been better quality. The staff however were very friendly and charming and tried their best. I would not recommend this lodge to anyone. Great pity because with a bit of imagination this could be sold to young travellers..but not at current price.

This place is vastly over-priced for what you get. Only a Continental breakfast (which we were not told when we booked). The rooms are rather bare - concrete screed floors and no bedside rugs. Our room looked out onto the deck but that area old have been cleaner. Staff, however, were fantastic and very pleasant

Sadly too close to the freeway which was rather noisy
