The hotel is built on a rocky headland with breathtaking views across the bay. Our room had magnificent views. The staff were very friendly. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was so relaxed, it almost felt like you were in the company of friends rather than strangers in a hotel.
The infinity pool is superb.

The service was good, the food even better. As we were lucky to enjoy the beautiful view on a table outside on a sunny day we enjoyed this beautiful place a lot. It's not a cheap experience but it's worth it especially for special occasions.

As part of the Relais and Chateaux group we were expecting great things and to a large degree we were impressed. While the staff are professional and courteous I feel that the hotel is missing something. These would include most annoyingly that you have to keep asking for things such as internet passwords, ice, tea, coffee, kettle, biscuits, shampoo, conditioner etc. Most of these things are available in a file in most hotel rooms or are replaced every morning. I'm sure it must annoy reception to keep being buzzed about such trivialities. The adjoining restaurant is quite formal but their food is exquisite. Their on site spa which won an award in 2005 is a disaster. I had a massage, manicure and pedicure and found all to be mediocre and the individual who attended to me wasn't familiar with the products they were selling. She didn't know the prices and wasn't willing to find out either. Not very impressed with that but the management at The Plettenberg dealt with it efficiently. In all a stunning location where you can view whales, surfers and boats.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great but ask for a sea view room.

This hotel was in a great location, comfortable beds, the best breakfast we have had any where in the world and the service was over the top. All the staff were awsome and the assistant general manager Johan really went the extra mile. Would return in a heart beat.

Room Tip: Fly into Port Elizabeth and out of Cape Town

wonderful restaurant for both dinner and breakfast overlooking the spectacular bay. room had a private patio and was very comfortable. when we requested a different bed arrangement, they were efficient and gracious. the swimming pool overlooked the bay and there was a bath down the hill to the beach for a nice long walk.
