This really was the most beautiful hotel I have ever stayed in!
We were treated like aristocracy from the moment we walked in. All the staff, from concierge to the lovely maids were so smiley and friendly whenever we encountered them.
The main hotel is beautifully presented with sea views all around. On our last morning we saw dolphins from the breakfast patio! Things only dreams are made of!
Our room was in a separate building across the car park it still had sea views and it's own pool and sunbathing section. I think we were one couple of very few guests at the time we visited (March), and we were given such care and attention while there. The bedrooms were lovely to look at and very clean. The maids were the first to smile and say hello if we met them in the hall, not something that ever happens other UK!
The restaurant was TO DIE FOR!!!! We were treated to an amazing array of taste experiences, including savoury jellies, foams and jus. All delicious! We looked forward to breakfast every day, as it was all of a very high standard.
The manager would use breakfast time to check with us that we'd found everything we needed and had experienced the local attractions, but never in a pushy way.
I was sad to leave The Plettenberg, but we were off to Franschhoek for a wedding!

After 10 days in the bush on game drives, we decided to drive the Garden Route from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town.

Our travel agent booked us for 2 nights at The Plettenberg and it is a lovely property with good staff.

We had a partial ocean view and the room was lovely - and clean. The surroundings are beautiful and you can walk down to the beach. They have two pools (one in each building) and a good breakfast buffet.

We ordered room service one night and it was literally one of the best meals of the trip. We also went into town to eat at The Table. This restaurant has great atmosphere and the best pizza around. My boyfriend had the Ostrich steak which was outstanding.

Make sure you make time to visit Robberg Island to hike and enjoy the secluded beaches. It is worth a day trip and is only 15 minutes from town. The views are spectacular and the beaches pristine. The hiking is also good.

We also went to Bloukrans Bridge where my boyfriend bungy jumped the tallest in the world. Make reservations well in advance and go early as it gets backed up. We made the mistake of booking a 2pm jump and they ran behind. If you are an adrenaline junkie, you can't miss the jump.

All in all, Plettenberg is a great beach town that reminds us of Southern California. It is a favorite among South Africans so book early if you are traveling in high season.

The Plettenberg is located on a cliff overlooking the bay and is worth the splurge. Enjoy!

We stayed at the Plettenberg Hotel for 3 nights. The staff are very competent and welcoming. Our room spacious and very nicely decorated. Huge bed and big bathroom. The lap pool has an amazing view over the bay and the Seafood restaurant is divine. Will be back for sure!

We were fortunate enough to enjoy 2 nights at the hotel in early February--having spent 3 days on Safari we were seeking some luxury in the sun--and were not disappointed

From its great views/ infinity pool / superb rooms it had everything we could have hoped for made even better by friendly and attentive staff

we decided to eat at the hotel on the first night and it was so good we opted out of the other eateries in Plett on the second night to enjoy the cuisine again.

It sets a standard others will struggle to get close to and will certainly return when next in South Africa.Nothing but praise for an exceptional hotel.

We stayed here for a week in January whilst unfortunately the hotel was suffering from industrial action on the part of some of the staff. Everything possible was done to minimise the impact on us and it was amazing to see all the senior staff step in and do all the necessary jobs whilst they had various staff out on strike.

The location, service and general atmosphere of the hotel are superb. The restaurant is surprisingly good for one in a hotel and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are really lovely and well laid out and despite staying with four children, it was an extremely relaxing and super stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sea view and the rooms in the newer building are generally bigger than the one...
