we just had one night, and unfortunately the hotel was fully booked, so we weren´t able to expand our stay - but the staff was very helpful with trying to help us with expanding our stay, in the end it did´nt work out. anyway, even the one night was perfect. a good night sleep, very nice rooms, beautiful views from the balcony, breakfast was excellent, the pool area is very nice, nothing to complain at all here.

40 years ago we were at the new Beacon Isle Hotel. It was one of Africa's best hotels. We danced every night to the music of lovely bands, the service was excellent and we could party all night long. It was a place to be seen! Now, 40 years later we re-visit to commemorate our 40th anniversary. The hotel has changed into an old age home and also a children's cresch at the same time. There are signs that the building is suffering from years of see onslaught, which is normal. We were surprised to find that the hotel has become a sort of bed and breakfast accommodation. After 21:00 there was absolute silence in the hotel. There is no night club (we are 63!) where one can spend a happy evening with friends and dance. In the ladies bar Children were noisy and were climbing OVER the bar counter! Two singers were trying to be heard, playing for the three or four couples but could not be heard. The decor in the ladies bar is cold and uninviting. The food is generally good and the service is also good, the room was clean. We enjoyed our stay, but it will probably be the last time we visit the Beacon.

Room Tip: Rooms on any side would be OK.

The Beacon Island Hotel is prominently situated on a rocky beach-head overlooking the Indian Ocean. One outstanding feature is the lounge, which offers panoramic views over the sea where the whales and dolphins go about their lives in full spectacular glory. It really is an amazing and spellbinding sight, children absolutely love it...!!!! (The whale season is best from July to January). The hotel also offers a wide range of entertainment and activities for children and adults alike. South Africa is currently popular due to the advantageous exchange rates against the British £, the Euro, and the US $. The hotel has around 200 guest rooms, including suites with stunning sea views, you can even take a shower overlooking the Ocean...!! The rooms are generally well appointed and presented in a fresh, modern style. The Indoor Pool seems somewhat unheated rather than 'heated' as advertised. I tried to make an on-line booking over the Hotel Web-Site, but alas in vain, (at the time of writing) the system simply does not work, thus I first of all had to make a costly international call to request availabilty, then the process of emailing began to finally confirm dates, room type, prices etc. In this respect the Tsogo Sun Group could do better..!! Eating at the Beacon Island can be a haphazard affair, the courteous and dilligent staff are sometimes quite overstreched when demand is high. Worth it to see the Sea-Life activity...!!!

A truly majestic hotel in a magnificent place. The hotel is well tailored. Incredible over December / January for children. It's really a fantastic hotel for adults and kids. Food is good, but limiting. There should be another restaurant run separately as all food taste the same.. Large pool should be heated. I rate this a five star holiday for family's. All the family's that were their had a incredible time. If you have small children through to teens, there is no better hotel. This hotel beats any hotel overseas for beauty and practicality. Relaxing at the pool is also tops. Our intire family will be back.

Room Tip: Sea facing either pool or Robberg. Higher up from floor five and six.

Congratulations to the management and staff of the Beacon Island Hotel in Plett. These are hard-working people and the hotel is well-run. In particular the restaurant staff are friendly and efficient. Easy access to the beach makes this a perfect holiday. My children loved the organized outings. The hotel was full and yet coped with the holiday season with ease, other than the exhausted staff who had to make up beds on the Saturday on which we arrived. The lounge overlooking the sea is the perfect reading spot. The reasonable prices of the meals, including room service, made it possible for us to use the restaurants for most of our meals. Our room overlooked the lagoon, which is not the aspect regarded as the best in the hotel, but gave us a view over the New Year's Eve fireworks display and along both beaches. We loved it and will return.

Room Tip: All four aspects of the hotel give an interesting view.

My husband and I stayed at the BI for a week between the 29 Dec 2012 - 5 Jan 2013. He has been going there for about 15 years. The rooms have been recently renovated, and are beautiful and modern. Each room has an exquisite view, ours was of Robberg Beach. Being so close to the beach, we were able to hear the crashing waves every night. The ocean is like a bath, and makes for fabulous swimming.

Each room has a bar fridge, so you can stock up on your own snacks in order to save a little money while holidaying.

The hotel is surrounded by 2 beaches in close proximity - Central and Robberg. The walk to the end of Robberg and back was over 9 kms, and was gorgeous. The swimming on Central was fabulous. The hotel has a small private beach, which is a bit rocky, so I would recommend rather walking to Central for a good swim.

We had some dull weather days, and made use of the hotel gym and steam bath, which were both great. The gym was well-equipped and most guests stuck to the time limits on the machines.

An added advantage of the room renovation is that the bathroom has a separate bath and shower - the shower used to be in the bath, which was a hassle.

The food at the hotel is top notch, and there is a wide variety to chose from. There are no additional fees for room service, which is very inconvenient.

The only reason my review missed a 5/5 is that there is no aircon in the room only a fan, and it can become quite warm. We slept with the window wide-open every night and the fan on high.

All in all, a very restful, relaxing week at the hotel and I will definitely go back again!

The BI has been our hot spot for almost ten amazing years attracting us back time and time again because of the locality, staff and general feel good atmosphere of back ground music interfered by the occasional seagull screeching over leftover food from the kitchens device food. Yes..... I can highly recommend this spot...

If you can get in that is.....
