“Best holiday for kids”
Reviewed 2 January 2014

The beacon island hotel in plettenberg bay is the best holiday my family and I have had since having kids!
The hotel is clean, newly renovated and extremely comfortable.
The staff are excellent and the whole hotel from the staff to the restaurant is very well run!
There is a heated indoor pool, and outdoor pool and the warm Indian Ocean literally on your door step!
No need to mission in your car or drive far or look for parkings everything you need is right Infront of you.
My kids ran around happily as it is very safe, and sometimes we hired a child minder from the hotel which was great!
I recommend this hotel for December and January as the weather is great and there are lots of kids and activities for them to do.
My entire family had a great time and we will certainly be back next December !

Room Tip: Any room with a sea view is great! The 5 th floor is quiet and peaceful, facing the pool and sea but...

I have been to the Beacon Isle hotel a number of times in the last 10 or so years and it just keeps getting better! The hotel has recently been revamped and has all of the facilities which could be expected from the best. It has 3 stunning restaurants, a beautiful sea-lounge, sun-bathing lawn, gym, spa etc etc etc... The setting is also magnificent, built out into the ocean with 270 degree view of the ocean. Just one thing to be careful of, the resort operates on a timeshare basis and it is very tempting to buy into the scheme, but this limits you to having to go at the same time every year. Rather rent a room from someone who is not using theirs that particular year and it costs you approximately the same as the timeshare levy would've - the hotel can facilitate this for you. Also, Plettenberg Bay is very subject to holiday periods. If you enjoy busy beaches and loads of night life and restaurants, the go in December. It does however get uncomfortably busy. If you are looking for a really quite and relaxing holiday then try and visit the town out of season. Everything is much cheaper then too. All In all, a lovely place!

Room Tip: Try and get as close to the ocean as possible. It's also nicer higher up (5th or 6th floor)

Heaven on earth! The best holiday location I've been to in Western Cape by far. My kids ages 4 and 10 years old had a blast. There were so many options hence no time for a dull moment. The beach is right there which made it so convenient. The rooms were spacious and luxurious (inter-leading rooms #612 and 613). It is situated on the corner of the hotel with these massive windows both sides of the walls. The views are spectacular!! The best was the long stretch of unspoilt beaches that seemed to go on forever. We ordered room service most times for breakfast (no buffet breakfast) and dinner. The food was lovely and I think it was not expensive either. What we missed was the buffet breakfast, but this was minor and once again the room service option served us well.

Room Tip: The location of the hotel should give you a beautiful view anywhere.

On my first glimpse of this hotel I was awestruck , the views were absolutely stunning we felt like it was a bit of heaven on earth .
That was however short lived , being a muslim family finding halaal food to eat at any of the restaurants in the hotel was impossible . Halaal food is simply not catered for.
The rooms are extremely small , the king size beds consist of 2 3/4 beds , extremely uncomfortable .
The bar fridge provided in the room does little to keep beverages cold which means fetching ice from the ice dispensers situated in the passage way on every floor where all the bins are kept which had the the most disgusting stench , (not something I'd expect from a five star hotel or resort "I dont know ".
Although the weather was not unbearably hot the absence of an air conditioner in the room was missed.
Front staff seems to out if touch with the ongoings of entertainment and the restaurants.
Also the pool area since its right on the beach could use some lighting up at night its difficult to sit and enjoy the beach at night when you have an awesome view but you plunged in darkness.
On the whole greats views 360, but a little attention to minor details could result in a spectacular holiday .

i did not unfortunately get to experience the rooms, however lunch was a pleasure. The location is spectacular, with gorgeous views. It's cool around the hotel due to the winds so a bit chilly for a swim. Though perfectly charming to flax. My only disappointment would be the lack of finesse to the establishment. The structure is very reminiscent inside of the Gugenheim in New York, but the decor and layout inside was not as complimentary to the welcoming ambience. I did expect singing a little more suave in a relaxed manner for this particular location. Otherwise a wonderful destination with lots of great activities close by.

Nice setting I mean, you can have room at left or right, the sea is on your doorstep. With good restaurants and atractions around you, you could not ask for more. Will defnitely return with family as their is alot to do!!!

Room Tip: Anyone, accept at the back! Front is obviously the best.

Their own logo is " a home away from home" if you stay longer than two days. A real family holiday with good events for family members. The service from all service staff is excellent and friendly. Security 100%. Restaurants are fine and very reasonable in their prices and a very good variety of choices. The daily service of the bedrooms are very punctual and leave the rooms very neat and tidy. It has now become our annual holiday to the envy of all our friends.
