Periwinkle Guest Lodge

This is a large modern guest house tastefully designed to resemble the deck of a ship and overlooking the beach. It is about 40 minutes by foot along the beach from the centre of town, 10 minutes by car. Welcoming staff, substantial breakfasts under shades overlooking the sea, accurate advice on local restaurants and amenities. We spent hours on our balcony just watching the beach and both sunrise and sunset.

As others have commented, there are no staff from about 8pm; we had no problem but can see this might be a disadvantage. The rooms were modest but adequate as were the bathrooms. There are several steps from the car park to the lounge and the bedrooms which would not suit anyone with mobility problems.

It felt a genuine and individual lodging which we much prefer to the formality of a hotel. We would have no hesitation in staying at Periwinkle again, if we were to return to S Africa but sadly...

Room Tip: Be sure to have a balcony overlooking the sea.

We had booked 2 nights here ,stop no. 4 on popular garden route trip during honeymoon.Friendly welcome on arrival as we checked in with beautiful balcony room views. As the norm,we left belongings, car keys etc in room safe and this is where all problems started.......
Welcome letter stated no staff from 8pm onwards. We were provided with emergency buzzer in case of emergency fire, break in etc.We were looking forward to dinner out in plettenberg bay. However Husband could not open safe after numerous tries. It was not a code issue as we were v familiar with these safes. After numerous trys,he went down to reception 730pm which was in darkness. All staff had left.Rang reception, rang out.Rang Paselette owner mobile no.Rang out.Left messages.NO RESPONSE.Walked around guest house looking for someone to help.Place in darkness as have lights in place that operate on movement. After numerous phonecalls from our irish mobile and hotel phone, and getting extremely hungry i decided to press emergency button.Car keys were in safe and it was not safe to walk into town.Waited and waited. To my horror NOTHING happened.Waited 20mins.Pressed button ,again NO RESPONSE.Extremely annoyed, hungry & frustrated at this stage, more than an hour later..
Eventually noticed head lights shining in car park.It was retired english couple coming in.I approached them ,asked if they had any issues with safe, which they did.Gentleman kindly tried to open our safe but to no avail. They offered us money which was extremely generous as we were complete strangers.I had one cc card on me.Out of pure kindness, they offered to drive us into town for food.We did and treated them to take away pizza as by this stage restaurants were closed.!!!.Folllowing am Paselette approached as had picked messages on hotel phone. She was not aware of emergency button being activated.Apologisedl and agreed that our instance was not a emergency but if it had,we or other guests were in real trouble. She checked safe, and rang security company to check fobs.Told battery was dead on our fob,but i explained her mobile was not answered. She said she did not receive calls, yet we checked number and had record on irish mobile. She kindly booked us for dinner in local restaurant at her expense for inconvenience. She was very nice to deal with.I explained my main concern was not us,but we did not want anyone else to experience this in a real emergency, break in etc, heart attack etc to which she agreed.
This is a beautiful place with great views, food, friendly staff & nice rooms.
However,a chain is only as strong as its weakest leak.Security & safety of guests need to be improved and prioritized...
IRISH HONEYMOONERS.

Returned to Periwinkle after a gap of 6 years and were pleased with the upgraded facilities. New infinity pool, new furnishings and decor and improved bathrooms. I had a massage but did not use the fitness room. The Staff were just as welcoming and efficient and we look forward to returning soon.

We had a 3 night stay at Periwinkle Guest Lodge and so enjoyed it.It is a stunning property with beautiful sea views. The rooms are lovely with a sea/beach theme...ie blue and white.
The bed was so comfortable with great quality bed linen and towels.Serviced everyday and beautifully clean.Bathroom was rather special.
The infinity pool looked very inviting but a little too cold for me...
Breakfast was so good, cerials, fruit, yogurt, full cooked breakfast and pastries if you could manage them !!!
Tea and coffee really good too.
In the afternoon there was home made cake and tea and coffee everyday and at 6pm you were invited to join everyone for a glass of wine before being given information about where to eat locally and they would even ring ahead to book you a table.
Thank You all at Periwinkle for a fantastic stay.

Room Tip: we had room 6 or 7 on the front, with beautiful seaveiw, lovely large room.

The staff are attentive, extremely helpful and excellent at their jobs. Due to training and senior management being present and 'hands on'. Rooms vary in size and outlook but well appointed, to a very high standard and kept nicely morning/evening. Book in time to get view of bay - best probably have more stairs! Located miles from central Plett, just accross small seaside road, it is a lovely position, although you need a car (parking space for each room!), taxi or very healthy walk, to get to local shops, restuarants etc. There is a fairly small area for sunbathing, with new small pool {having complimentary coffee or evening drink here is super!). Pick a highlight? Must be being served superb breakfast (you choose!) on main balcony with wide view of bay. Traveled a lot - very hard to beat. If they are full, try sister 'Abalaone Lodge', minutes away, very good.

Room Tip: Book very early! Ask for room with good view of bay.

We've sadly just left periwinkle to carry on the rest of our travels but we had to review it to say how much we loved this place. Sensational views, warm people, beautiful spacious rooms. We can't fault it, we always stay in pretty nice accommodation but this place we really felt was next level. When you arrive you really feel as though you've come home, which is not an easy thing to accomplish for accommodation places. Thank you pascellette and her team for making us so welcome and looking after us so well, you go the extra mile and its appreciated! Hopefully will be back to plett one day to visit again!

Room Tip: All rooms are different and good. But we had arm chairs in ours so could watch tv like we were at ho...

This is definately one of my favourite places...homely, very clean, ideal location and spledid staff. Svena and Selby were very helpful, professional and always had a smile. I enjoyed the afternoon tea and evening wine:-) . Breakfast was scrumptious. The pool area is small but totally cool. We will definately be visiting again...and for longer.
