“unbeatable experience in schotia park with malcolm”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014

In mid March this year we were fortunate enough to visit Schotia Park and Ado Elephant park. What followed was amazing. We were picked up about 9am. by Malcolm and driven to Ado park where he entertained us by driving through the park stopping occasionally to show us animals in the wild that we would have otherwise have missed except for his keen and trained eye.Later on at the Elephant watering hole we witnessed a baby elephant being born which Malcolm said in all his years as a guide he had never seen.I should add at this time the reason we were there was for my wife Patricias birthday which is St.Patricks day and as we are Irish ,Malcolm put this event down to the Luck of the Irish. We were hoping the park might name the baby Patricia or Patrick in view ot the above experience.
Later that day we were taken for lunch and then on to Schotia park which was mind boggling to say the least. What we saw was amazing, all the different animals in natural surroundings and to cap it all we witnessed the Lions coming down from the hillside to feed on a Zebra after which we were brought for dinner in an amazing hut type building.Hospitallity there was second to none and the food amazing and as much to drink as one wanted. After dinner Malcolm took us on a Night drive through the park and then drove us home which was well after 11pm.
This was truly the experience of a lifetime and to anyone reading this we would urge you not to miss out no matter what ever other things you have planned.Once again I must say a BIG Thank you to Malcolm whse attention to detail was amazing and answered all questions no matter how trivial. Thanks again Malcolm for the experience of a lifetime.

“Amazing animals, unforgettable experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2014

Wow - where to start? We stayed two nights in the 'honeymoon' lodge at Schotia, taking in 4 drives altogether and it was awesome (a word I hate using, normally, but thoroughly apt in this case).
Because we went in low season it was just us on the first two drives (afternoon/evening, which starts just after you arrive, and early the next morning), so we had the supremely knowledgeable and lovely Kurt to ourselves. He knew exactly where to go to find all the animals - Schotia has all of the Big 5 apart from leopard, and we saw them all, several times, and so close we could almost touch them. I have looked through my photos a hundred times since and I don't think I will ever tire of doing so.
The morning drives were amazing - the quality of the light and morning mists first concealing then revealing animal treasures was literally breathtaking. Meals were all great - served by the rangers, who also ate with you. The communal dining area is probably great fun in high season, when there are lots more people, but it was nice with just a small group, too.
The lodge itself was wonderful - there are three altogether and they are well spaced out, so you really feel like it's just you in the middle of the bush (on the first night, it was just the two of us, save for the night-time howling, grunting and scuffling of the animals. Takes a while to get used to - I was fairly spooked at first - but you soon realise how amazing it is to be listening to all of this while drifting off to sleep.)
There is electricity, and a coal-burning stove - which was very welcome, as it got pretty cold once the sun went down. There are snacks, water, tea and coffee-making facilities provided, as well as towels, toiletries, etc. We brought some wine with us to have after dinner - but you do get wine and beer at dinner as well.
We took an extra excursion to the neighbouring Addo Elephant Park (about a 35-minute drive away), which was also amazing, but Schotia, because it's smaller, beat it hands down for animal sightings.
All in all, a wonderful place with fantastic staff, beautiful landscape and truly amazing animals.

“Created Memory that will last a lifetime”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 January 2014 via mobile

Wow amazing drive. Firstly I know we are luckily to have experience the animals we did. We set off at 3pm with our guide Donovan who was amazing guide, he was knowledgeable and no question was a stupid question. He was the best guide I have ever had on a safari, you could tell that animals are his passion unfortunately couldn't sit with my party as everyone else walked out to meet Donovan and not wait like we were told. My mum had a problem getting in and out of the truck because of a bad knee. We got into the park and was told because rough bush we would not see any animals but as we drove through I saw a bull elephant. We drove to the north side first and saw 2 white rhinos and heard there heartbreaking story. We saw warthogs, family of giraffes, elands, zebras, red heartabeast, and a lot of other antelopes. After a stop for a coffee and biscuit it was time to hunt for the lions. We drove around for nearly an hour when we spotted some elephants and drove towards
Them as we were looking at the elephants i looked to the left and there lying in the sun was a male lion full mane. Looking like the king he is!! This was called in over the radio. Soon the lion started to get up and move and was looking to his left we turned to discover that he was being chased by an elephant. We spent about half an hour to 45 mins watching the lion. We then went had dinner sitting around the camp fire was brilliant all sharing stories. This afternoon have created memories of a lifetime for me. Please go on this tour.
