5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2014

We Stay one night. Reception, nice & discreet people. The Bedrooms Clean and nice. I recommend the place for a stop over in Port Elisabeth. 'The Hub' is centrally located, and recommend 'Vovo Telo' Port Elisabeth for the brunch.

Room Tip: Good for one or two days

This is a Boutique Hotel in the heart of Walmer, this is a residential area with good shopping centres around. The beach front is about 10 KM away.
If you shop around you can get hotels or B&B's for the same price or less with more things. In today's world of technology, I have grown to expect there to be 2 pin plugs available in the room. This is the first place in a long time that didn't have one.
Each room has a small balcony, which is great. However these balcony's allow you to look into the adjacent rooms. Which means you may close your curtains when in your room.
Last thing that is expected especially in warm towns is an Aircon, and had i of read the fine print closely would not of booked there because of no aircon.

Thank you for your valued feedback. It provides us with the opportunity to improve on our service.
We apologise for any inconvenience with regards to the lack of 2 prong plugs in the rooms - due to theft, we have opted to keep them at our Reception desk. Should you come and stay with us again - please ask one of our ladies to provide you with one.
We take note of the lack of aircons in the rooms - due to us only being a 3-star accommodation establishment, we are not required by the Grading star to have aircons in the rooms, only fans. Port Elizabeth has in the last 2 months experienced an unusually hot and humid summer. It is not normally this hot. But thank you for your feedback!

I wasnt expecting the hotel to be managed the way it is, with no reception personel after 9pm etc. If you want privacy this would be your hotel, convienient and safe hotel situated on a busy street. Basically its a home away from home, it has a nice pool with an average breakfast. The value for money is superb so given the option i would definelty stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: try and get a room that is facing the pool it has a better view.

This is a small modern hotel with secure parking. We stayed there for a few nights in December. Rates are reasonable (625 ZAR) but it's not exactly my idea of a boutique hotel.
Good points are that it's handy for Walmer and Port Elizabeth. Rooms are clean and beds are good. We had plenty of hot water and soap was supplied (but not Shampoo). Walmer shopping centre is just down the road and there is a great little breakfast and lunchtime place one block up (Brioche). Pleasant staff but only 06:00 to 21:00. An Iron and adapters can be borrowed from reception. Free Wi-Fi is available.
Bad points: Our stay was marred by other residents. Banging doors and talking at all hours of the night. Sounding car horn at 04:45 then making noisy entrance. With no staff during the night you are at the mercy of the behaviour of the other guests. Room doors seem to rattle with the least movement of air. Shower in bathroom is in bath and care should be taken as bath can become slippy. Honesty bar is all locked - presumably some previous residents weren't complying with the rules. There is no a/c so rooms can become stuffy if the windows are closed. Road noise at front of hotel.

Room Tip: Take a room at the back as the main road can be noisy and you need the windows open in the summer.

thank you for your feedback. We apologise for the fact that you experienced a noisy night. Our office hours are 6-9pm, however we do have staff available on the premises 24hrs a day to deal with any complaints and needs that our guests may have. Please dial 9 and they will attend to you.
We have had to keep our 2 prong plugs/adaptors, as well as our Honesty Bar locked up - due to theft in the past. Again - our staff are available should you require any of these and will attend to you.
thank you and we hope to see you again!

The Hub is a modern little hotel and great for a short stay. The location is good, close to Walmer Park Shopping Centre, and the off site parking is safe and plentiful. The rooms are well equipped but I did not see an adaptor for charging cell phones. The beds are comfy and I always have a good nights rest at this hotel. In summer it can be a bit warm as the hotel is only equipped with ceiling fans. I don't believe you can get better value for money in PE, a great price for what you get. I do believe the place lacks a bit of personality and the breakfast could be better. But the price is so good.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the pool is nice.

Dear Grant
thank you for your valued response! It is always great to receive feedback so that we can improve on our services to our guests!
We would love to have you come stay with us again - with regards to the adaptors - we keep them at Reception due to security problems we have had in the past, our Receptionists will be only too happy to give you one to use with your next stay.
We wish you a special time with family and friends over this festive season!

I recently had to go to Port Elizabeth for 6 days and ended up staying at the Hub Boutique hotel in Walmer. I really enjoyed my stay, it reminded me of the quality and standard of hotels i always look forward to when i travel overseas. The hotel is very modern and upmarket but yet also very cosy with a welcoming comfortable atmosphere. I felt totally at home. I was very surprised to find out that they only have 3 stars. I thought that the building looked more like a four or five star Hotel. This is a bonus because you are only paying 3 star rates but getting 4/5 star luxury.

The staff are very friendly and efficient. The owner Rene went out of her way to make sure that everyone was happy. Wlamer is perfectly situated being close to everything PE has to offer. I have read some of the write ups on trip advisor and must state that i did not experience any hot water problems and my coffees, shampoos etc were there everyday.

Wonderfully maintained building, green gardens and a blue swimming pool. I would highly recommend this one to anybody looking for accommodation in Port Elizabeth.

Room Tip: If you spend a bit of time in your room like i do then go for the rooms with the outside patio area...

We stayed here the night before a marathon in PE. Overall it looked better than what it was. Our hot water in our room didn't work properly which meant cold showers. No complimentary shampoo or soap so had to rush out to buy last minute. Then guests came in at 2 am making massive noise up and down the corridor for 30minutes (this obviously not the fault of the Hub but didn't help the experience).

Overall not the best stay, in future will opt for another hotel or BnB in the area.

Thank you for your valued feedback.
We must apologise for the cold water - we have had heat pumps installed as a green initiative. Unfortunately on some occassions it takes a while for them to heat up to the maximum temperature. We do not supply 'cakes of soap' in the rooms, but we do supply a Bodywash/Shampoo combination in all our showers and a handwash on our basins.
We do hope that you come back and make some new memories with us!
