“Peaceful Haven in the Middle of the City”
Reviewed 31 October 2012

This park has some of the loveliest trees one could hope to see and the pathways through the leafy groves are an absolute pleasure to wander along. The flowers in the exquisite Pearson Conservatory, a classical piece of Victorian architecture that has recently been beautifully refurbished, are a joy to behold. The outdoor theatre too, is a delight to look at, surrounded as it is by a tangle of trees, giving the impression that one is sitting in a rustic playhouse carved out of the primeval forest! The Prince Alfred's Guard War Memorial is a strikingly poignant monument to the soldiers who died of wounds in several wars and campaigns of the 19th Century. The park is well maintained, but there is no evidence of any security personnel and I would not recommend visiting it alone.

“PE's own Central Park”
Reviewed 17 August 2012

There are so many things to see in St Georges Park doesn't matter if you are into sport, history or gardens. I took my kids to see the newly revamped Pearson Conservatory and took a walk throught he park and gardens before the kids went to play in the play park. I wish more people would go and enjoy the park, but the few who currently are know that its a great spot just to relax and get away from the city for a little while.

“Colonial Splendour”
Reviewed 13 August 2012

Every last Sunday of the month, a flea market called "art in the park" is held. Also other entertainment like a live brass band, dog shows etc. A relaxing stroll in the middle of town.

“Okay during the daytime”
Reviewed 11 June 2012

Since the end of Apartheid in 2004, personal security is a must in places like this. Its reputation precedes it - once a wonderful family fun place, if you mention to the locals you are going to visit St George's, there is an air of panic, with a warning to be careful. It's such a shame, as it is a beautiful place to be on a hot day. Greater security is needed within the park itself, in order to restore the reputation. Sadly though, like any local government areas in SA, little funding is available for things like this.
