St. Phillips Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #62 of 238 Port Elizabeth B&B and Inns
Reviewed 21 March 2013

St. Phillips B&B is a massive century home in a tony neighbourhood serviced by cool bars & quality restaurants. St. Phillips B&B has beautiful large common areas with high ceilings, wood floors, some rooms had balconies & there is gated parking. Our room was tastefully decorated, but the bathroom was a little too open-concept for even this long-married couple. The innkeeper was very friendly, helpful & accommodating. She packed a lunch for us as we had an early flight & would miss breakfast (which we regretted missing as part of the overall experience).

We stayed at St. Phillips for three nights and enjoyed every minute of this beautiful place, our marvellous room and the great hospitality of Margie and Loreen. No need to be afraid of staying in a city: although nice restaurants and bars are in walking distance this place is in a very peaceful area (with a stunning view from the balcony..) We definitely will come back as we have the chance for another trip to South Africa!!!!

Great B and B perfect for all the great little resturants in Richmond hill especially the two olives best steak I've ever had, We had a lovely warm welcome and the staff were very helpful, large comy rooms with plenty of amenities in them. Good breakfast all in all a lovely little gem, my only complaint is that they under charge, the rooms are worth more than what they ask for them, stick your prices up.

I stayed in PE at the beginning of a 2 week trip along the Southern Coast, and loved St. Phillips. It was a great place to begin my holiday. Loreen and Zoe were incredible hosts - warm, engaging, and kind, and made great recommendations. Loreen made an excellent recommendation for a guide to Addo and Schotia (Peter DeWitt), and I feel incredibly fortunate to have had that experience. This BnB is a great place to relax, as it is quiet and calm, and nested in a beautiful, safe neighborhood. Within a 1-3 block area are wonderful restaurants and shops, and the beach is a short taxi ride away. I couldn't have imagined a better way to start my holiday than at St. Phillips!

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms have a sweet wrap around balcony perfect for sitting on in the morning with tea...

We stayed here Nov 7-9 and loved it! Loreen warmly welcomed us and showed us to our room. It was the huge front room with a beautiful veranda wrapped around the house. Loreen couldn't have been more helpful and kind, suggesting restaurants, printing off directions, even having her husband bring over a large flashlight to help my husband find his glasses that were lost in the dark. We had only planned to stay one night but extended it another night because it was so nice. Breakfast was also excellent, a full English breakfast cooked to order. Zoe and Loreen were both wonderful. Unfortunately we didn't meet Margie since she was away. I would definitely recommend this place and would be delighted to return.

Room Tip: The front room #1, I believe, has an extra little room attached, with a single bed. It also has a vi...

Stayed over in PE before starting the Garden Route back West toward Cape Town.

It's in a beautiful old house with balconies and verandahs, and we were made to feel very welcome. The room we had was spacious, with massive windows and a balcony offering a view down to the ocean.

My sleep was disturbed by some very late arrivals, but I feel this is no fault of the property. It's just unfortunate. My girlfriend managed to sleep through though!

The local neighbourhood seems to be up-and-coming, and very safe, and there's no problem walking to one of the good cafes or restaurants a couple of blocks away, which is great if you fancy a drink with dinner and not needing to worry about driving or taxis.

Margie and Loreen are charming and graceful hosts who go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay. I spent a month at St Phillips and enjoyed my time there very much. Rooms are elegant with an abundance of natural light. Breakfast is generous and close by are some great restaurants and cafes. It's in a very pretty part of Port Elizabeth and the balcony offers views over the bay. I would recommend it to anyone going to PE. It's great for single travellers as well as couples and families. Thank you Margie and Loreen!
