We were received with smiling staff, Service was excellent, food was excellent, very friendly staff. Overall very good stay over, just the faulty gas powered fireplace that bugged us (on a very cold evening)

Dear Reynier and Family

Thank you for the review. I must apologise for the gas fireplace, we have looked into this and it seems it was an airlock in the piping.

We did however ensure that there were normal oil heaters on in the evenings, as well as electric blankets on the childrens beds and hot water bottles in the main bedroom for the duration of your stay so I hope that these were sufficient and that the gas fireplace was more for ambiance.

It was great having you stay with us and I hope that you will all return in the near future.

Kindest Regards

Sarah

Tucked away from the bay, we stayed in an extremely spacious cottage behind the main building with all the amenities one would need. It was a bit chilly and though the fireplace did not work, a heater was readily provided on request (hot water bottles are also provided during turn-down service). Dinner was a real highlight of our short stay. Our host Sara, described the options with the enthusiasm and passion of someone who genuinely cares about the dishes she prepares, and our meal certainly reflected that. Large, hearty portions of home cooked food with ingredients sourced locally and from her garden will not disappoint. Having heard about her famous scones during a brief stop in town, we asked whether we might be able to try some before we left, and she graciously had a batch ready for breakfast. A thoughtful touch that was appreciated. All in all, a pleasant stay.

Stayed 2 nights DBB in a garden suite. This really is a place to relax and be pampered. From arrival to leaving we received the highest care and attention - and it seemed to happen as if it is the norm to all the staff and not any effort.
Our room was large and comfortable with a large bathroom and balcony. Doors and windows seem to be wide open as the norm and so it was good to have a fully netted four poster bed at night - no mosquitos! Excellent bed and pillows. Charlotte Rhys cosmetics to compliment an excellent shower. TV in the room did not have sports channel but Sarah managed to flick a switch and then we had!
It was very quiet when we were there and rather then have us sit in a large dining room a table was set aside a blazing fire with numerous candles giving a warm and friendly atmosphere. This happened both nights as did food to complement any top restaurant. Excellent wine selection.
Breakfast, like dinner was also memorable. It just kept coming..... beautiful presentation and delightful in every sense.
The only downside to our visit was that after two weeks of hot, sunny weather the weather broke and we encountered two days of torrential downpours. Shame as we could not walk the extensive gardens and watch the many birds but hey ho we will just have to go back again on our next visit.

I had the pleasure of spending two nights while on business. The Dune Ridge is not just a place to stay and dine it a whole experience of the most enjoyable order of magnitude.

The finish and detail in the bedrooms if followed through to the dining and service without fail. If you are looking for a magical retreat and enjoy dining with food prepared by a hidden gem of a chef.....book now and I know you will never regret it.

We truly enjoyed being pampered. I would particularly recommend Dune Ridge over Christmas when St Francis Bay gets so noisy. We stayed in a family unit and could entertain our friends in privacy. Breakfast was a treat.

Our family of two adults and two children stayed for 5 nights at Dune Ridge in Jan '14. Dune Ridge is a small establishment and there were very few other guests at the time of our stay so we literally had the place to ourselves except for a day or two, which made it very peaceful and quiet. The rooms are nice and spacious with a large patio, great beds, fridge, minibar, water boiler and heated floors in the lovely bathroom (Believe it or not, this was extremely nice even in SA). It's a bit hard to adjust the warm water in the shower to perfection. A couple of days the cleaning wasn't completely too our expectations, but then again, travelling with a 1 and 3 year old we did make more of a mess than normal and would occasionally interrupt the cleaning personnel in their duties. There's a beautiful lush garden and a very nice pool area well suited for kids as well. Occasionally the pumps in the pool wasn't running which made taking a bath somewhat less appealing, but no big issue. The breakfast was nice with hot dishes like egg and bacon and omelettes, müsli, toast and homemade jam. They also made pancakes for the kids which was much appreciated. Although some hot alternatives were cited to us when we arrived, we did miss a simple menu of choices of hot dishes they could make in the kitchen to kick-start our minds. Travelling with kids, we really appreciated the possibility to have dinner at Dune Ridge. They would make the dinner of our choice when dining with our kids in the dining room early evenings. But also on two occasions, after the kids had gone to sleep, we treated ourselves with their three course dinner. They made our table in the lovely colonial style living room by the patio and by the fire place which was really romantic and atmospheric given the African chanting they were playing. We were also allowed to stay here late evenings after the personnel had left (given that our kids were sleeping int he room). Much appreciated! The three course dinner was good value for money in our opinion, with great wine accompanying it. The service at Dune Ridge is personal and impeccable and Sarah and Precious would always cater to our needs and requests, but it could at times be a bit too low key and not that cheerful. All in all we recommend this establishment if staying in the St. Francis Bay area.

Dear Lars

Greetings from sunny St Francis. I hope you and the family are all well and hopefully planning the next vacation to South Africa.

Many thank for the great review. With regards to the pool pumps not running we try and ensure that the main pool runs on a timer that it is off during the day and then cleans for a few hours in the evening. The Jacuzzi bath that runs into the swimming pool which I am assuming you are referring to is also on a timer. This is off at night and comes back on at 7am for an hour to get the water flowing and then off from 8am-11am. It normally runs from 11am to about 6pm. Those are generally the hours where our guests dont normally make use of the swimming pool area. We have looked into your comment though and looking where we can improve this and possibly just run it all day.

When we have guests that have been on holiday for an extensive period of time we know that people get tired of the usual "cooked" breakfast everyone serves. We run through quite a number of breakfast dishes we are able to do and also encourage guests to communicate to us that if they do not feel like anything on the menu to let us know as we are very flexible with all our meals and will accommodate them where we can. Our meals be it breakfast or dinner needs to be an experience on its own. I have mentioned to the waitressing staff to communicate more with our guests in terms of this.

Im glad that you enjoyed the dinners and the quiet time in the evenings. As I mentioned before we do what we can to accommodate our guests requests to ensure a comfortable stay and a return in the future.

We look forward to hopefully seeing you and your family soon.

Kind Regards

Sarah
