“Burnt but not down”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

A few days after we had made a reservation for friends and ourselves at the Lemongrass Restaurant, it sadly got burnt. However, we were accommodated by their sister restaurant which is situated next door but was serving their menu. What a lovely Dutch / Indonesian / Moroccan experience. We all had a wonderful meal and whilst the service was not 100% spot on the helpfulness more than compensated for it. The food was extremely good and the portions more than ample and the prices very good for what we were getting. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and I would really recommend it to anyone who has enjoyed a rystafel overseas and is salavating for the flavours and mixes.

“Awesome suprise”
Reviewed 4 October 2013

We had friends from out of town and decided to go somewhere different. What an awesome surprise. Lemongrass is located in the older part of Benoni with a rustic atmosphere which enhances the ambiance. Our waitress was also very attentive and responded promptly to our drinks order and advice about the menu. The service and food were excellent. The Indo-Dutch cuisine is something different and very well prepared. The prices where also very reasonable. Live piano music added to the atmosphere and was not overbearing even though we were seated next to the piano. For a first time, this restaurant comes highly recommended.

“A Dutch-Indonesian Jewel”
Reviewed 2 October 2013

This small restaurant in the upper west side of Central Benoni is a hidden jewel. Our family visited for the first time although I have seen the restaurant before in passing. The renovated old house lends atmosphere and it is not overcrowded. Some of the staff seemed inexperienced and could unfortunately not help with an explanation of items on the menu. This was somewhat of a problem as many are rather exotic dishes. Food is freshly prepared and therefore the service takes some time; be prepared. An excellent wine list is on offer and very reasonably priced. The food was the star attraction on the day; as it should be. Wonderful, tasty, excellent balance of flavours, spices and herbs, quality ingredients; it was all there. Definitely worth a visit and good value for money.
