Description: Rabbit in the Moon is a stunningly beautiful Italian restaurant. Bohemian colours and art pieces, together with a Tudor-style tent and a herb garden set the mood. The freshest ingredients are used to prepare wholesome dishes with a touch of flare and delightful freshly baked bread is always available. Upmarket Italian cuisine is the order of the day and panzerotti, bruschette and panna cotta are just some traditional favourites on the menu. It is said that'Those who can see the rabbit in the moon, must be truly in love'.

This was a new restaurant for us and both my husband and I were pleasantly surprised. The outside venue makes the best of Joburg's wonderful weather, the service was good and the food surprisingly delicious. Highly recommended. We will be back!

Popped into Rabbit in the Moon Illovo after a bad experience in 2011. I was ecstatic to find that the Restaurant has undergone a massive renovation and changed ownership. Simon and his staff were there with a great warm welcome. The layout and design of the Restaurant is open and airey and very nicely appointed. A very simple and reasonable Wine List. Some great Hemel and Aarde Valley wines which are always great. As a starter I had the Smoked Salmon Ceviche, WOW!! it was outstanding as a starter and could very well suffice as a light lunch meal for a lady. My partner had a beuatifully presented starter of Bruschetta with buffalo mozarella and stunning fresh chopped for tomatoes and a gorgeous dressing. So generous and so fresh. We then moved onto a pizza. I had a Parma Ham, Shaved Pameseano, Fresh Rocket and my partner had a Copa, carmelised onion and dolce latte (blue veined soft cheese) creamy and tasty. Lovely thin base, tasty, great quality ingredients. In fact I would be bold enough to say that these were one of the very best I ve had in Joburg in a very long time. Simon was so friendly and accommodating as were his staff. We wish them well and highly recommend that you give them a bash. By the way their wonderferful setting indoor/outdoor verandah lends itself to long boozy afternoos with platter boards of cheese and cured meats which they do very well as well. Dont Drive By - they are well worth a stop over.....

Love the atmosphere! Great selection of wines and most important the food was superb, first time in that restaurant and will not be the last.

Recommendation:
Starters:
Prosciutto, Parmingiano shavings and arugula ( rocket )
Main:
Grilled Fillet Tagliata Sliced rare fillet with parmesan and rocket, dressed in a blend of juices, garlic and lemon
Salmon - Salsa al basilica (basil & lemon sauce)With Insalata di fagiolini (Green bean, potato, rosa tomato & buffalo mozzarella salad)
Cotoletta Milanese Chicken cutlet topped with arugula (rocket) and cherry tomatoes - served with truffle French fries.

Try it, you will love it!

Wonderful place with great service and delicious food. It is certainly our favorite restaurant in Jo-burg and we would go back for lunch and dinner whenever we can. It's not a child friendly place but when we take our 15 months son along he enjoys his time because of the attention he gets from the staff. They are very friendly. The owner would spend time chatting to customers and make sure that the food is meeting their expectation. If not, he would send it back to the kitchen right away. I would definitely recommend the place. Great food, wine, atmosphere, music... what else is there to look for?
