I was on a business trip from the 7th to the 9th.
Sanet the hotel manager was so friendly and welcoming , i felt i was home.
The room was beautifully appointed.Every single amenity was thought of professionally.Beds are big and very comfortable, terrace is beautiful witht a jacuzzi and a sun bed. Breakfast was delicious and the service was excellent, from the waiters to the chef... Basically , everyone was friendly.
Sanet was kind enough to give me a tour of the hotel and some of the new rooms being built.
There are 5 rooms now , but there will be 11 in a few months. They are all beautiful.and i think the penthouse will be perfect for families...I loved the skybar. Its perfect for families , friends or a business group spendIing the day or the evening there . There is a tennis court and a pool .
I recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to feel pampered in a home like feeling.
Chapeaux to the owner.

The Residence is the most comfortable hotel I have ever stayed in. Every little detail that you could possibly desire has been thought of from the bath menu, the roaring fire and the Nespresso machine to the outdoor showers (there is also an indoor one and a massive bath tub) and spa. The breakfast was also something to write home about - homemade muesli, fresh fruit, pastries, cold meats and cheeses and a choice of delicious hot meals.

The staff of the Residence are wonderful. The team led by Sanet is warm and helpful, making you feel like a friend staying in their home.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and look forward to returning again very soon.

We stayed here just for one night and cannot praise the residence enough. I have travelled all over the world and have yet to find something so uniquely personal , private, welcoming and value for money.
Small details are what obviously matter - sherry on arrival, personal welcome and tour, fresh flowers in the room with a great quality coffee maker and fresh cookies. Incredible turn down service including chocolate, miniature amarula, lavender spray and even a hot water bottle!
Sanet made us feel like long lost friends not customers and nothing was too much trouble.
THE most comfortable beds, linens and an excellent and reasonably priced menu made this truly magical for us both.
Looking forward to returning and sampling te extension which is underway now.
Don't hesitate to book - it's number 1 for a reason.

Room Tip: we stayed in room 5 which has a completely private terrace, jacuzzi and outdoor shower.

My husband and I spent a lovely weekend at The Residence in Johannesburg for our wedding anniversary. Our room was beautifully decorated. I cannot fault the service which was impeccable throughout. I would highly recommend this boutique hotel to anyone, and look forward to returning.

myself, my husband and our 4 month daughter stayed here for 3 nights while on a business trip in johannesburg. first time in south africa.
we were lucky to get room 1... if you can get this room, it's just great. we had enough room for ourselves and our baby daughter. we had a jacuzzi and a lovely outside area.
but the best attribute of this hotel has to be their staff. everyone of them went out of their way to make our stay unforgettable. sanet, the manager, was outstanding. she treats the hotel as if it was her own, making sure everything is just perfect... great attention to detail.
breakfast was a great treat, with so much selection it was impossible to finish. and the kitchen made special meals for us on request.
we had a great time and can't wait to go back, but this time not business but pleasure... and really enjoy the hotel to the max.

Our whole stay - from booking to checking out - was truly memorable. For an establishment with only one year's experience, The Residence is doing a superb job. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent, and we prefer this small menu (executed brilliantly) to any larger hotel's often extensive menus. Great wine list, good range. I agree with another reviewer's comment: it's obvious that the service here comes from the heart. I would stay there any day. Well done to all the staff - fantastic job.

Room Tip: Suite 1 was excellent, jaccuzzi a great treat, privacy.

We live nearby and went to the Residence as a romantic escape venue for the night.
I believe it has only been open for a year and for us it was a great discovery.

It exceeded expectations - on a quiet tree-lined street although easily accessible from the highway, it is a lovely mixture of old floors and style with sophisticated modern fittings - showers, coffee machine, etc. The deck with hot tub and sun loungers (suite 1) made it extra special. The neighbourhood is great for a morning walk past grand houses.

The service was always good - if sometimes a little inexperienced, it felt like it came from the heart. The food (dinner and breakfast) was simple but excellent quality.

I have stayed in, placed guests in and visited many hotels and guest houses in Joburg over the years and The Residence goes straight to the top of my list. The Saxon outdoes it in sophistication, space and splendour but without some of the personal charm, and at a cost.

Room Tip: Suite 1 has deck with hot tub and sun loungers, overlooking garden/pool/tennis court.
