AMAZING!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 8 Feb 2019
We rented the Penthouse for 2 nights after a long safari vacation in Kenya. The experience was amazing. The room/rooftop area were gorgeous. We were treated like queens. Everything about it was fantastic, the staff, the ambience, the food. If we ever get back to SA this will be the only place we would even consider. Our flight on the last day was not until 7:50 p.m. and they let us stay without charge for the whole day, provided us with a driver who took us to visit the Cradle of Humankind and our delightful driver to the airport, Marvin, even left a little bit early so he could show us some of the sites we didn't get to see during our few days of touring. Loved everything about The Residence. It made it very hard to return home to Chicago! Had fantastic massages our first day there, and got beautiful pedicures our last day. Were truly pampered.

The Residence raises the bar for services and accommodation in Johannesburg. It is a magnificently furnished hotel throughout the common areas and 18 suites.
We stayed on two occasions both before and after our journey throughout Africa. The first time we stayed in a Jacuzzi Suite which was a beautiful room with a separate lounge area, a large sun deck, and a heated outdoor Jacuzzi.
On our return to The residence we stayed in their Pool Villa which is serene and stunning. There is an outside area with a heated plunge pool, and inside the suite is amazing, with a lounge room and fireplace, dining room, separate bedroom, and beautiful bathroom.
The turn down service is lovely with slippers, fresh ice bucket, pillow treat, and beside the bed a bottle of Amarula each.
All of the staff are immaculately groomed, extremely polite, and so helpful. The food is of an exceptional standard and you are spoilt for choice.
"Marvellous Marvin" drove us around wherever we wanted to go, be it to restaurants, shopping, or a city tour, He is an amazing ambassador for the hotel and Johannesburg, with his wealth of knowledge astounding us every time. He also has a great sense of humour.
We also stayed at their other property Camp Ndlovu - see separate review. There is a consistency and similarity is style and service between the two.
The whole experience could not be faulted and is a must for visitors to South Africa.
This place really is something unique.

We had breakfast this morning, which was very disappointing. Firstly the service was poor and I had a dirty napkin folded on my plate. The value for money is very poor as it is very expensive (almost R300 pp) for a small variety of cold meats, fruits and bread and a hot breakfast consisting of an egg. Definitely not good value for money. We left very disappointed and will not go back. When we brought it under management’s attention, they were not interested at all.

We felt deeply sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your 4th breakfast experience at our boutique hotel as an outside patron and concerned to hear that our offering of oysters, smoked salmon, selection if Deney's yoghurts and MCC just to name a few items on offer, were not see as value for money. We have made a decided that the hotel will in future no longer open our food and beverage offering to outside guests without prior reservation to avoid a reoccurrence of the above.

Warm welcome from staff , greeted by a smart gentleman in a top hat! Reception and manager were very helpful and polite. hotel is former private residence set among other mansions. Located around corner from nelson Mandela residence.
Excellent security and driver called gift kindly took my daughter out to mall for emergency dentist during our stay. What lovely helpful staff all round.
Room 4 on ground near gift shop and restaurant was huge, had plenty of space with separate lounge and outside kitchen and shower. Beds comfy
Showers good and bathroom was big with full size bath. Toileteries were luxurious.
We had a fantastic breakfast which was included.
However we are al la carte evening meal in the hotel. Service was incredible , food was excellent quality , great tempura prawns , tasty fillet steak
Would highly recommend this boutique hotel.
Incredible from start to finish.

We booked to stay at The Residence after reading the 5* reviews on tripadvisor... it did not disappoint. From our pick up at the airport to the moment we were dropped off we were made to feel extra special. Our room (room 15) was luxurious with a private jacuzzi and sauna, sitting area, nespresso machine and great air con. Big comfortable bed!
We only stayed for one night but managed to fit in a Soweto tour with Marvin as our guide. He really made our visit to Johannesburg great with his local knowledge and enthusiasm for his city.
Breakfast was a grand affair with a large selection, even though the continental was rather large in itself! The truffled mushrooms with eggs was excellent.
Thank you to The Residence Boutique for making our first night on honeymoon one we will never forget. We hope to come back for a longer stay!

We have been lucky enough to travel the world and stayed in some fabulous hotels but every once in awhile you stumble across a hotel which takes your breath away , the residence boutique does exactly that .
It's a little bit of decadence in an upscale suburb of Johannesburg and not too far frm the airport so serves as a wonderful base to either start or finish your travels.
We stayed in a beautiful appointed suite with seperate inside and outside bath and probably the most comfortable bed I've ever experienced in any hotel .
Everything about this hotel exudes class and luxury and very reasonably priced for what you get can't recommend enough .
Only slight negative is staff can be a little slow to interact with the guests a warm smile can go a long way and service was a little slow considering there are only about 20 rooms in the hotel but in fairness was over the new yr period so allowances can be made .
I'd finally like to compliment the general manager Warren who went above and beyond to sort out the small issues we had and for me this speaks volumes about the management and how much they value each and every customer this hotel is a must do when in Johannesburg and we look forward to visiting again in October Ray & oksana
