Fantastic, fresh and authentic food at a very reasonable price.

I was first taken here in 1995 and have revisited on every visit to South Africa since - one of South Africa's hidden gems and a must visit.

Do not be put off by the location. Cars parked outside on the street are well guarded and when you walk inside it is like Dr Who's Tardis - just with better catering.

I can't recommend anything in particular on the menu as it is all fantstatic, but, make sure you enter the address into your Satnav before departing home. The location that the Satnav will take you to if you plug in the restaurant name is 2-3 miles away.

I have reviewed the restaurant before but this time I went to the pub. This is a real pub with lots of dark wood (not one of these fake franchised operations) and lots of atmosphere. The menu is small but good. I went for the prego and chips that was vey good, they do a peri-peri chicken for R39.00 and then there is their famous prawns. Beer is cold and the service is fast. The new large flat screen TV makes it a good place to watch sport

The seafood was fresh and the catemba came in 500ml glasses...! The restaurant was very busy, but the service was good. The size of the prawns was exactly what was promised on the menu and I recommend this restaurant.

I went to Parreirinhas hoping to find the best local Portuguese/Mozambican food in town. In some respects this establishment does live up to it's reputation. But it can still do better.

The good: Fabulous atmosphere. Warm and friendly staff and patrons.
The ok: The Espetada (fillet) was very tasty but was served cold. The prawns were delicious, albeit a little small.
The not good: Everything is served with chips. I asked for additional 12 prawns and got it served with (more) chips and rice! Vegetable sides are an afterthought. The calamari (squid) starter was tough and too oily. The waiter was friendly but uninspired. The manager just walks around asking if everything's ok, but not really engaging with his guests.

Overall. This was a fun night out and the price was reasonable. The food was ok but not exceptional. Loved the atmosphere and old "colonial" charm. This is more of a family favourite restaurant than a place that really cares about food.
