In a town where its difficult to get a great dining experience; ambience, service and quality food in one; this place deserves its top ranking; from what I hear they have been around forever. If you like a pub like atmosphere and nothing fancy; this place has one of the best vibes in Joburg for eating a good meal. The general Portuguese fare cooked with butter and lots of hot sauces is not going to have your heart doctor singing but hey this is when you want to break your diet. And the location will probably scare most people; it took me years to finally visit this place and my garmin was smoking by the time I found it. The neighbourhood looks like the perfect set for a Quintin Terentino shoot out. Take a crowd and do a late Friday afternoon lunch and you won't regret it.

So I was heading to jhb for business....

Thought I would meet up with the Lord of Lava, Kane 'The Volkano' Mavrodaris and head to the infamous Parreirinha :D

We arrived to an intimate little building which was packed with people looking for great food at a very reasonable price.

Our chicken livers were flavourful, the prawn rissoles were just the right spice.. I had the 8 x queen prawns which could only be described as plump and juicy.

So worth the visit. Very pleased to have made the pilgrimage to such a legendary spot :)

Made the great trek to the deep-South (seriously out of our comfort zone) and felt like we had stepped by in time. This is a place completely untouched by influences of the North. This a great value-for-money, go-when-you-are-hungry kind of place. The portions are enormous and I recommend you share. We had the prawn cakes (lots of garlic but very yummy), the oysters (enormous), the mussels (parreirinha sauce a bit boring, add chilli), the beef espetada (not little cubes but whole steaks, can feed a family), the prawns (crispy on the ouside and succulent on the inside), the Italian kisses and the sorbet (unbelievably delicious). All in all, a great night with great friends.
