I have been going to the Radium since 1988 when it became a restaurant after being a mens' only bar and pool hall for many years. It really hasn't changed much since the 90s and even the menu is similar -with the addition of excellent pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven - half price on Tuesdays and very good value. It's not plush or upmarket but genuine and down-to-earth with lots of character. There are several draft beers available. The food quality varies - sometimes excellent, sometimes more average - mainly a Portuguese influence with the usual bar food, fish and grills, and the best chicken livers in town, if you like that sort of thing. I can see why some people say it is a bit scruffy - but so are a lot of excellent pubs in the UK - and although one or two reviewers have commented on the area not being safe, I disagree. Park in 9th Street and you and your car should be fine. The jazz the first Sunday of every month is a real treat - but get there by 11 or so or you won't find a seat.
