Situated close to the Johannesburg Zoo, this well layed out Museum is a must for the War History Buff.

It has a huge number of fantastic static exhibits........to name a few that I found fascinating......they have a Messerschmidt jet that was developed by the German scientists towards the end of WW2........and a series of weapons developed by our own South African military engineers including the world's best artillery piece the G5.

Well worth a visit if you are a military history buff. Rare exhibits such as a Me. 262 and FW 190 aircraft as well as mini subs and lots of hardware for any interest. A gem !

It was very interesting to see the old military vehicles and weapons. There are information on it as well and some of the vehicles even have certain specifications available, like weight and diameters and the weapons it had equipped.
I enjoyed the experience and it is well kept after with a café for something to eat and drink.

Next door to the zoo, this museum is as museums in the UK used to be - exhibits (planes, uniforms, artefacts, even a collection of rifles) with labels. No button pushing, 'intereactive displays' or dumming down. Such a refreshing change.

My partner who is mad on planes said he saw many he had never seen before - you'd have to ask him what they were! But we passed a happy couple of hours in this small but fully stocked museum before moving on to the zoo next door.

The cafe there is nice too and a good place to sit and contemplate the madness of all our military histories. There is also a military memorabilia shop full of fascinating stuff.
