“Great Views. But horrible service”
Reviewed 6 April 2014 via mobile

I finally got the chance to go to Emoyeni for lunch with a friend. The view is amazing. The environment is great but the service was very bad. The waiter had no idea what the dishes were served with. He gave me an old menu so I chose a dessert that wasn't on the menu anymore, he didn't even realize it was because he gave me a wrong menu. WORST of all, my salmon dish had a piece of plastic in it. I felt a funny thing in my mouth as I was chewing and realized it was a plastic. I didn't pay for my meal.

I really wouldnt go back for lunch. It was not the standard of fine dining.

“Horrible experience”
Reviewed 15 February 2014

This was hands down one of the worst "fine dining" experiences I have had. Service?? What service we had to beg for food, wine cutlery water. Food cold and dry, management didn't give a damn. Lots of people walked out without paying. People we loitering in the lounges lying on the sofas with dirty plates on the seats giving the venue the feel of a seedy back packers lodge. Just an awful waste of money. Felt sorry for our hosts they were mortified. At R350 per head we expected more, You would get a better experience at a Mac Donald's drive through !

“String of errors . . .”
Reviewed 20 December 2013

The Emoyeni interiors are run down & in loving need of some attention, yet the restaurant was fully booked. Our wine choice was out of stock; the waitron was seen attempting to open a bottled drink with a fork rather than an opener; a request for the chef's speciality was the 'lamb of rack', the salmon starters had no lemon & the black pepper arrived ground in a small bowl during the main meal. All courses were terribly delayed & arrived cold. The duck was served with a plum sauce, the fillet was served with a non-descript sauce & only on tasting them was it discovered that guests at our table had been served the wrong plates. Our host requested that all the meals be returned to the kitchen. A table of 12 overheard our experience & so decided to just get up & leave. Our meals came back 30 minutes later on scalding hot plates with food that had been nuked to a cinder. Desserts were also inedible & unattractive. The patrons were by now chatting with each other across the room about the shocking slow service, wrong orders & cold food served at every table. We asked to see the Chef & he confessed that the desserts were all frozen commercial brands which the kitchen resorted to when under pressure which was the case because of a private birthday function hosted on the terrace. There & then a table of 8 decided that they would leave their warmish food & rather go home with a stop at their reliable Take-Out along the way . . . & the entire restaurant broke out into laughter. Needless to say there was nothing more the Chef could say other than make a peace offering of 'no charge'. We all departed having enjoyed our drinks & a beautiful view across Johannesburg!

“Stunning views, great food and vibe!!”
Reviewed 3 December 2013

I took my husband to Emoyeni for his birthday. I booked a table for Sunday brunc outside. We arrived around 1:30pm. There were no more tables outside and they put us inside, which was not too bad as there was a bit of wind and we were with our 11 month old baby.
The venue is an old Victorian house, restuarant revamped with glass all round to see the most stunning johannesburg views from all angles. The vibe was great as there was a live jazz band playing.
The food was also good, the only problem was they dont refill whatever is finished. Because we got there a bit later for brunch and they had a busy lunch some of the meat and dessert were finished by the time we got to them. The trick is to get there early around 12 and spend the whole afternoon there.
The service was great, waitors were attentive and always there, we did not even notice when they removed our dirty plates!! They had a limited selection of juices, only orange on the day we were there??
When we finished eating we moved to a table and couches outside to admire the views and they had started packing up the buffet, so it is critical to get there early to enjoy your food.
You have to climb a set of stairs to get to the entrance, this is a challenge when you are pushing a pram. But we found out on our way out that there is a pram ramp outside which goes al the way to the outside patio!!
Overall our experience was great, we will be back soon.

“WEDDING RECEPTION WITH SUPPER”
Reviewed 13 July 2013

We went to Emoyeni to attend the wedding of my husbands niece last weekend. We were so impressed with all the arrangements. Ian and his staff really went out of their way to make this a truly memorable experience. It was a cold day and all the fireplaces were lit which gave the venue a warm, welcome feeling. The guests received piping hot (one of the best I have ever tasted) Gluhwein after the ceremony while waiting for the photos to be taken, sitting in one of the many lounges at the fireplace. The food was excellent! For starters we had Duck and Risotto, for mains we had a choice between Fillet or Salmon. We chose latter. This was the best Salmon I have ever had! Super soft and tasty. For desert we had Chocolate Mousse with a Brulee "lid" which was the final touch to a super meal. The waiters were very efficient and friendly. We had a stay over as the bride and groom had a wing, with huge sitting room, television, kitchen, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and balcony for their use. Everything perfect! Ian was at the venue late and back again early. Quite a manager! Well done, Emoyeni!!! This venue and the way you conduct business is a win-win combination. AND THE VIEW!!!.....
