“VegiNOT - Not near good”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

I recently visited this place for the first time and decided to try a few things. Overall the service is shocking and the good is not up to scratch. There are much better restaurants for vegans and vegearians around Johannesburg which are well worth visiting.

The presentation of the good is okay and the odd drink concoctions are not very palatable. This is not a good attempt at a restaurant/cafe. There could be much more work done on the menu as to introduce better flavours that work together and aren't so bland and poorly prepared.

I would suggest they introduce a nice wholesome curry, lentil dish or a salad that is well thought out.

I won't be visiting this place in a long time.

“Sublime!”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

This is probably one of the best places to go to in JHB for vegan cuisine that is not just a salad bar. Absolutely divine foods and the best part is that the desert is sugar free!

“good but order what is native or recommended!”
Reviewed 11 May 2013

This is place is great for vegetarians - average decor but man, so much selection! I ordered a typical green salad w/avocado and butternut squash. Coming from the US, I thought this was special... but I've soon come to realize that this is the standard vegetarian dish at all mainstream South African restaurants. My friends ordered dishes that were very much infused into South African culture... like dal/rice! Honestly, the dal/rice tasted homemade, fresh & delicious! So, my best is go w/items like that!

“Pleasant al fresco cafe with an extensive menu, but some rather indifferent food.”
Reviewed 11 February 2013

It may be that this is a newly opened cafe, as there do not appear to be any reviews for it up until now. This is a vegetarian restaurant rather than a vegan one, and I must say the menu was very tempting. My starter of a Sushi was nicely presented but not special, not tasting of anything very much (ie no infusion of ginger or wasabi). For my main course I had a Salad with an avocado, chopped walnuts and butternut which was nice enough but not special. My husband opted for a BLT (made with rye and tofu bacon) which he said was tasteless. Some of the food was gluten free., but some of the food did contain wheat. Puddings were tempting and we enjoyed our well presented 'Mila Rose' which was gluten free. I ordered a lemon blast drink which was freshly squeezed and delicious. Prices were reasonable, and I might return here, but there are other better vegetarian restaurants in Johannesburg. It would be worth watching the Greenside though to see if it improves once it is more established as the menu is interesting. I may have just chosen badly on this occasion.
