The Top of Africa gives beautiful views from the 50th floor of the Carlton Centre. It provides one with another perspective of Johannesburg and its surrounding area. Visited this attraction as one of the stops on the City Sightseeing tour (open top red bus). We were met by a representative of City Sightseeing who guided us throughthe Carlton Centre and accompanied us to the top floor. He also collected us when it was time to hop onto the bus again. The building, said to be the highest in Africa, is in a dodgy part of the city. The shopping area on the ground floor is a bit crazy and did not look too safe. The specially designated lift took us to the top floor very quickly and smoothly. The views from the top were awesome. In fact the city of Jogurg looks great from up there. One gets an idea of exactly how expansive this city is. There is ample opportunity for great photographs. Historical information is displayed throughout. This attraction is nothing too special but it also does not try and sell itself as such. The main idea is an opportunity to have a bird's eye view of this urban centre, and that it provides. A nice diversion if one has the time. A kiosk/coffee shop is available at the top.

This was my second trip to the top of Africa . It is very decently priced and the view is awesome but it is a bit dated and could use some refreshing. Good fun for kids.

Visited 'Top of Africa' as part of a Jo'burg city tour. The building is old and run down and I didnt feel overly safe outside or around the ground floor of the building. The elevator up is very quick and the view from the top is good and gives a nice view of soweto and all the surrounding areas but very little information boards available to tell you what exactly you are looking at.

We did a quick day tour of jo'burg after being in south africa for 4 months and this was one of the stops on the tour which we could have skipped. The building itself isn't really kept up and there is nothing amazing about the city to see. I don't think it's worth it at all

I found the trip to the Roof of Africa worthwhile.
It's a great way to gain perspective of the city and its surrounds.
The cafe is disappointing. A touristy shop would have been a bonus. Nevertheless, it's a good way to spend 30 mins and understand the city, its suburbs and landmarks.
