I arrived to stay with Liz at Lancaster Guest House, in need of a rest. I was looked after in every way possible. It was quite a different experience from staying in an hotel. Travelling solo can be a challenge and Liz was full of great advice on being street wise in Johannesburg, no jewelery, don't carry passports and so on. This gave me the chance to get the best out of an interesting visit. The house at Lancaster is extremely comfortable and Liz has decorated the rooms in a thoughtful way and they are really comfortable. The addition of being able to self cater is marvelous. I felt safe at all times. Her staff were helpful and kind and eating breakfast looking out on her lush and beautiful garden, with the sparkling pool beckoning was wonderful. On my next visit I hope to be with my family and repeat the experience with them. Lancaster is perfect for singles and families. The dogs and cats are experienced hosts and add to the pleasure of staying in this beautiful place. Thank you Liz for your hospitality.

I stayed at Liz at Lancaster house from March 13-20,2011. This was my first time in South Africa and I did not want to leave. Liz was the best host I have had at a B&B she arranged everything for me including pick up at the airport and any where I needed to go the whole time I was there. This is the first B&B that I have stayed in that would even fix lunch or dinner for you if you needed it.. Breakfast was great every morning.. I stayed in the garden cottage and it was comfortable and cozy it was clean everyday . Everyone always had a smile and said hello everytime you saw them. Zac was the driver and he took me where i needed to go and always was nice and polite and had a smile on his face. Liz knows the area and can tell you sights that you should see on your visit..It was the best home away from home that I have stayed in in years.. If you dont stay at Liz at Lancaster house on your next visit to Joburg you a missing out on a great vacation. Miss you Liz and Zac and hope to see you again soon. Tell Molly I miss her!!!

We are so pleased that you loved your first visit to South Africa and for your feedback on your experience at Liz at Lancaster. Johannesburg can be a daunting destination when you first visit so it was good that you enjoyed your stay here and made the most of Zac's transport to and from places of interest. Sadly there is still not an effective public transport system for visitors, which means relying on vehicle transport wherever you stay as tourist attractions and neighbourhoods are all so spread out. We certainly hope tthat this first trip will not be your last and that when you return we will be welcoming you back to Liz at Lancaster.

Liz at Lancaster is a perfect B&B. Our rooms were perfect, clean, spacious and beautifully decorated. The most amazing part about the place is the pool. We spent one afternoon just lounging and having wine as the sun set. Also really spectacular is the breakfast. Perfectly cooked eggs, granola and all kinds of delicious treats.

We at Liz at Lancaster really appreciate you taking the time to write a review of your stay here. Thank you for the feedback about the rooms and the breakfasts. We are just so happy that the weather was good for your stay as there is nothing quite like those warm balmy Highveld summer evenings as it begins to cool. Just perfect for sundowners by the pool, Although LA is a long way away, we look forward to welcoming you back if you ever in our part of the world again.

The welcome and service we had from Liz and her staff were wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble and Liz is a fount of information. This was our fist visit to South Africa and inevitable problems cropped up for such newcomers. Everything was sorted effectively and efficiently by her.

The property with its secluded garden and pool is very attractive, spotlessly clean and very secure and our breakfasts were a real treat with the other guests (many of whom were return visitors) all extremely pleasant and friendly.

We stayed in 6 other guesthouses in S. Africa all of which were very good - but none was better than Liz at Lancaster.

Liz at Lancaster was our first B&B in our South Africa trip. Already before out trip we had nice e-mail communication with Liz, and we already had a good feeling to stay there. We were also quite impressed by the information she provides through the website and her blog. This is not usual.
We arrived with our rental care safe and good at her place in Craighall Park, it was easy to find, and is not too far away from OR Tambo Intl Airport.
Liz' place is wonderfully set with a beautiful garden and swimming pool, the guest rooms are set in the back close to the main house. Our room was "Ochre" a large room with kitchenette, table, sofa, large bed, TV and a big an beautiful bathroom. We felt instantly at home. We also had the feeling that Liz, Catherine and the other girls took really good care of us (and the other guests) and provided everything with care. I'd like to point out some little details: There was always fresh water, bath cosmetics were provided (and not the usual cheap ones, but really nice products), gas lights and torches were available in case of blackouts, there were dozens of information and Liz helped us organizing a Soweto tour very last minute. The breakfast was really good and delicious, and we felt really sorry when we had to leave. We also loved her dogs, especially Marley, a golden Labrador which just can't get enough love :)
Next time we will definitely stay longer - Liz is a remarkable and interesting person, very warm-hearted and a great communication partner. We definitely recommend her B&B for a stay in Jo'burg.

Even Parktown and Joburg Central are easily accessible – it took us 12 minutes to Wits.’ ‘Superb service and such comfortable spacious rooms’. ‘The on-site transport was a real added bonus.’ ‘Your Joburg information booklet in our room was amazingly helpful and useful.’ It is a mere 12 minute ride from O.R Tambio International Airport to the Rosebank Gautrain Station which is only 3.5 km from Liz at Lancaster.
