We stayed at Liz's guesthouse as part of our honeymoon in early November. I could not fault a thing! The rooms, breakfast, hospitality were second to none and it was excellent value for money. Liz has thought of everything! If we go back to Jo'berg again there is nowhere else we would stay :)

We arrived in Johannesburg at 6.00pm in a thunderstorm after a 16 hr flight from Atlanta, US. We felt very welcome and at home immediately. Every little detail is attended to and everywhere is super clean. We stayed three nights and were upgraded to the Yellow Cottage which is lovely. Large bedroom with king bed. Large living room/kitchen very well supplied with couch and comfortable chairs. A large bathroom with tub and separate shower and bidet. And a private courtyard with a fountain! We couldn't have been happier. Breakfast was superb and we were joined by Marnie the friendly golden lab. Liz makes sure you have everything you need and has a wealth of knowledge about trees, birds etc. The Spar grocery, restuarant and wine store are just 3 mins walk. This was a fabulous start to our vacation and we will certainly return. Many thanks Liz and all the staff.

Thank you Lady P for sharing your experience of Liz at Lancaster with the Tripadvisor community. Arriving in a Joburg thunderstorm is quite a dramatic event in itself. As I write this the rain is bucketing down - no lightning or thunder though as otherwise my computer would be closed down and unplugged. It is good that you found the location so central and convenient with the shops at the end of the block within walking distance. We are happy too that your stay here was such a good start to your holiday in South Africa. We look forward to welcoming you back when you are this way again. Liz at Lancaster is a quiet, friendly well located guesthouse in Johannesburg. You will wake up to a great breakfast cooked to order in a pretty room with views out to the gardens. Liz and her staff are welcoming, helpful, and chock full of advice on what to do and where to shop. Liz's jack of all trades, Zack, will provide cheerful and efficient airport pick up and drop off, as well as drive you to local activities (for an extra charge of course). We found it very stress free not to worry about transportation since Zack was available to transport us at a reasonable fee. We stayed in the Yellow Cottage, with two huge rooms and every possible amenity. HIghly recommend Liz at Lancaster.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are probably excellent. The Yellow Cottage was around the back, farthest away...

Dear Sharon,
Thank you for writing up your impressions of your stay at Liz at Lancaster. You comment on the peacefulness here and yes, it is something guests often comment on. Some say when we are full or near full "Are we the only people here?' Good too that Zac made such a difference to your getting around. He always has such a broad smile, knows Johannesburg so well and nothing is ever too much trouble for him. Thank you for coming to stay and for taking the time to write up your experience on Tripadvisor.

If you need to be in Johannesburg for a week or so, this B&B is a great place to stay and the breakfasts are outstanding. It is comfortable and homely and Liz and her staff really do go the extra mile to provide for your individual needs. It is like staying with friends. I stayed in The Earth Room which had kitchenette/sitting room area and a lovely little patio. There is a large supermarket within easy walking distance. I would certainly recommend this place to others.

Just an amazing experience for out last night in South Africa.
We arrived directly from Kruger park, and after 10 hours on the road, Liz guest house was the closest to home in South Africa.
We had one last day in Johannesburg, and with nothing arranged, we were full of questions and doubts, that Liz solved and arranged as soon as we arrived.
Attention to details as mirror in the shower, menus from all restaurants around, torchlight, and so more, make the stay unforgettable.
The staff that works with Liz is also amazing. I just can not think how could it get any better.

This was our last night in South Africa and my did Liz outperform our expectations! She was so kind as to even upgrade our room as it was our wedding anniversary!

From the well maintained gardens to the thoughtful little things (she provides home made muesli, plug adaptors, even torchlight and a safe in your own room! Etc etc)

It's also very close to a super spar store and just 5min drive to rosebank mall where there's an African crafts market and 3 malls to shop and great eating places.

Safe neighbourhood too!

Thank you for your comments on your brief stay here at Liz at Lancaster. If we had known it was your anniversary we would have offered you one of our local 'champagnes' which we call Cap Classiques. Some are really excellent. But even without the champagne, we're so pleased that you enjoyed your stay so much and that all our attempts to make visitors' stays as comfortable and hassle free as possible, did indeed make a difference for you. And yes it is such a central neighbourhood for shopping, restaurants and the famous Rosebank Rooftop market. Thank you again for takintg the time to review Liz at Lancaster. We hope that if ever you are in South Africa and Jozi again, you will come and stay with us.

Even Parktown and Joburg Central are easily accessible – it took us 12 minutes to Wits.’ ‘Superb service and such comfortable spacious rooms’. ‘The on-site transport was a real added bonus.’ ‘Your Joburg information booklet in our room was amazingly helpful and useful.’ It is a mere 12 minute ride from O.R Tambio International Airport to the Rosebank Gautrain Station which is only 3.5 km from Liz at Lancaster.
