Airport Inn B & B - Johannesburg
The best thing about the Airport Inn B & B is the free airport transfers. We returned to Johannesburg late in the afternoon and were flying out the next day and compared to other accommodation close to the airport it was seemed very reasonable, so it suited us to stay here. Besides, the photo’s didn’t look too bad at all. That’s the end of the good news.
I don’t know which room they took the interior photo’s of but it certainly wasn’t the one we were given. The accommodation is very shabby and definitely needs a makeover. Our room was very dated and in need of repairs. It is easy to imagine the section we were staying in was once a large house which was divided, very cheaply, into bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms.
On checking in we were told that the ceiling light doesn’t always work so we should use the bedside lamps if it doesn’t. The fluorescent ceiling light flickered on and off so we used the one working bedside lamp. The shower leaked onto the parquetry floor which was mouldy and rotting. Obviously the leak has been there for some time and most likely this is where the musty smell of the room comes from.
The guy that does the airport pickups is very cheerful and friendly. The rest of the staff act as though guests are a nuisance which must be tolerated, and everything is too much trouble. The breakfast cook looked at my husband as though he had gone mad when he had the audacity to ask her for 2 eggs with bacon, and then scowled at me because I only wanted a hash brown and bacon. To top it off you receive a note on your table saying “You may tip the chef”. What a joke. My tip is buy a cookbook and learn some people skills.
People reading this should also be aware that this accommodation is also known as Emerald Guest House.
The interesting thing is that there was only around AUD $10 difference between this accommodation and the luxurious accommodation with full buffet breakfast at the Protea Wanderers Hotel where we spent our first night in South Africa (although they are around 40 minutes drive from the airport and do not offer free transfers).

I have booked double room in this hotel, and for this I had to pay ZAR700 as deposit.
The cancellation policy in the contract stated that, if I cancelled my booking within 14 days in advance, the deposit loss was 50%. I had to cancel my reservation for airline schedule change 16 days in advance, and so I asked my ZAR 350 back, but, in spite of my frequent enquiries, I never had 1 ZAR back, nor I had any answer from the hotel staff. Just, simply, ignored.
If you are going to book in this hotel be careful, don't pay one penny in advance.

After an international flight I am happy to lay my weary head almost anywhere quiet and clean - and so it is with the Airport Inn. Being picked up from the airport was great except when you have to pick up another guest who was an hour late - leading to an hour wait on our bags after a 20 hour flight. The In was 10 minutes away - why not just drop us off and go back?

Anyway, being winter and not having the heater work was a cold surprise but we were here for a safari, so were fine to rough it. There is a premium placed on the convenient location, but this is a NO FRILLS place. The hot breakfast was a welcome goodbye to a relatively clean, simple airport inn.

I took this B&B because my friend in South africa had scared me from insecurity in town and it was also cheap. The breakfast was good and behavior of staff was well.Rooms are around an open small beautiful garden in seperate. It has a small outdoor pool which was useless in that cold month. This B&B is complete out of town and you should take taxis(which is expensive) or daily tour to visit Johannesburg. There is no effective warmer or cooler in rooms?!and it was really cold at nights. There is only a small flat warmer on the wall which is not effective and in the morning that you are out, servants unplug it and in the mornings it take too long to warm(although very ineffective) again!when I asked the manager,he told me it is just this kind of warmer in Africa?!!!!(my 4star hotel in capetown had digital split warmer!).There is no phone in rooms,no refrigerator, its toilet door does not closed completely!!Walls and floor are from stone so you will feel unsecure about insects and it was not a good feeling for me to walk on floor. There is not a various menu for Dinner and lunch but it was not bad and about 15 $.They have good co-operation to reserve daily tours for you.I recomment gold reef city and suncity(not with pilanesburg park at all because suncity is very big and one day is also not enough for it).each one of gold reef city and sun city needs at least one complete day so do not mix them with other tours.Do not go to Soweto at all!it was a disaster.they will take you among the poors and beggars! You can find it in your dirty part of your own town too!I think this B&B is only good for business traveller who only wants a cheap olace near the airport.

We arrived at JNB around 21:15, my wife and I waited about
70 minutes till all the 10 guests were assembled for the transportation to the Airport Inn. During our long wait, a total of four of us asked the driver to take us to the Airport Inn. When the entire group assembled, the van was too small for the passengers and luggage. And, two trips were required.

The room was infested with ants, dirty with some stained smelly small carpets, and some of the wooden furniture was rotting. The room construction did not dampen the considerable noise from the air craft. After flying for many hours, the lateness of the hour and our tired condition, we had no choice but to stay in this substandard room. I am sorry i did not take pictures of the room.

On a scale of 1-10 the breakfast is a 3.

During this trip we stayed in two other modest JNB airport locations both of witch were much more enjoyable. You can find much better accomidations near JNB with little effort.
