“Cricket great”
Reviewed 30 August 2014

Took my wife and grandson to see England v South Africa the Proteas won a good game enjoyed by most, my grandson with his South African cap and wife and I supporting England. I think a good day was had by all except a few kids trying to get autographs most obligingly signed by most boundary protecting players except I'm afraid Morgan in the England team. Only thing that grates me are the number of Hawkers consistently vying to sell their goods and blocking views a good deal of the time which I found them most inconsiderate. The grounds may be old and a little tattered but the atmosphere and friendliness is fantastic.

“Tired old stadium with plenty of atmosphere...”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

When people say that this place has history and atmosphere what they're really saying is that it's old, tired, needs refurbishing and has real health and saftey issues.
By modern standards it should be either closed or the capacity reduced. It's fine on a Currie cup day when it's half empty but when it's full it can't really cope with the crowd.
The seats in the Railway Stand are poor, the middle section of the Main Stand is not a place you can exit quickly from in a hurry and by all modern standards the place gets a score of 1...but this is Newlands and you can't give it a 1.
They'll move eventually to Green Point when politics and administrators get organised and it'll be a shame to see it closed but times move on...and Newlands represents the past.

“Legendary”
Reviewed 17 July 2014 via mobile

Newlands is the home of South African rugby.
Built next to the oldest beer brewery in Africa, Newlands has a rich history and is well worth a visit.

“Rugby Museum in the Making”
Reviewed 6 June 2014 via mobile

Hath the glory has passed. The atmosphere and spirit was great but it feels very dated. Congested passages, long queues to get drinks, poor TV coverage makes world class something of the pass. Maybe the time has come to move and put Cape Town Rugby Facilities up there with the best. It will be a sad day when rugby has to move but the sooner the better so that the stadium can die with dignity, before it starts becoming more of am embarrassment.

“More hawkers than supportors”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

Went to watch WP play the Force and I was distracted for the entire match with hoards walking in front of me selling everything from popcorn to cow parts. Come on guys eat before or after the game, surely you can last 40 mins without eating or what about buying before sitting down.
