Te only thing you can do is go to the mall that you can enter into directly from the hotel building. (which is excellent). The area is extremely unsafe. Infact the hotel staff themselves suggest not to step out into the neighborhood. For those who do not know Sunnyside is amoung most unsafe areas in Pretoria. And for that reason i would never stay here again, nor would I recommend anyone to.

Within the hotel
Good
1. Pool
2. Hygiene and Cleanliness

Bad
1. No Gym
2. Very Limited breakfast menu
3. Rooms are very small
4. No cupboards in the room (strange !)

This hotel is good for quick visits, not for extended workshop sort of stays. Rooms felt claustrophobic, windows were sealed shut and ceilings rather short. I could not wait to leave. The hotel is clean and close to malls so access to restaurants and cafes is good but in the end, many people on our team has power supplies replaced for fake generic ones! You don't realize this until you get home unfortunately. And they did not have a fitness center, the closest one is a distance away, contrary to what they told us when we booked.

Room Tip: Watch your electronic cables and power supplies!

We like Holiday Inns and have stayed in many, all over the world, for quite some decades. We especially like the buffet breakfasts and spacious rooms. The room was up to the usual HI standard - clean and pleasant. The breakfast was good, if a little boring, the staff polite and helpful.

The hotel is built on top of a shopping mall - useful perhaps, and access from the hotel, BUT the Pretoria HI is sadly in a bad location and it is impossible - or rather risky to walk anywhere outside the hotel. We know SA well, and the staff advised us not to be outside at night alone too.
We tried to use the tourist bus service and used a taxi to get to the bus for a circular tour starting near the tourist office on or nr Church Square.
In spite of publishing an advertising brochure the tourist office staff were so unhelpful, and too busy surfing the web to make any effort to help us- so back to the hotel with a large taxi bill. The 'New South Africa' does not function well it seems.

The only way to get around is via your own car - with doors locked - sad ...

Ok hotel. In a quiet area with direct access from hotel to a mall. Not a great range of shops. Quite a few nice places to eat.
Rooms were small.
Get a higher floor. I had to change rooms as I found hotels on lower floors were a bit depressing and dark! The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was good.
Hotel is a short taxi ride to a Tain station into Johannesburg with regular service.

It's a nice hotel for business trips. The hotel is in a quiet area, so you can sleep well. It's also near the DTI and another public agencies of SA, so you can go there on foot. There's also a mall next to the hotel, where you can find restaurants, drugstores and other services. The rooms are a little small, but new and clean. Breakfast is ok. There's also free internet in the rooms, but limited to some MB - for those who want just read and answer e-mails, it's ok. Otherwise, you can buy some extra internet time.
