“Good Italian Cooking”
Reviewed 21 November 2012

Situated within the Wonderboom National Airport premises, VSG has a small hotel, and lounge.

The restaurant is situated before the main terminal building - parking is convenient (charged boom gate).

The decor is very pleasing to the eye, with alot of ornate brass framed mirros and pictures, sub-dued lights, a fresh flower vased on the table and soft chairs around tables with neutral coloured table linen.

The main restaurant is both non-smoking and smoking seperated by sliding doors - and flows out into the pizzeria terrace which is less formal.

The menu is typically Italian with continental options. the pasta's and pizza's do dominate but there are a couple of chicken and veal dishes with a good selection of seafood plus of course grills with various sauces.

The food preparation is good - its deliciously made and well presented... and exactly as they stipulate in the menu - so you will not get unexpected surprises or omissions.

They also give a wine suggestion with each main course (although I would have preferred to see the prices of these alongside, instead of having to refer to the seperate wine menu).
And the wine list is never-ending! Mainly South African but also international- including a selection from Italy naturally.

Desserts are portioned rather generously - so be prepared but try and indulge yourself!
A hint ?.... ever heard of a nutella calzone! mmmm ....

It is an Italian family run restaurant, however one would not notice this, as there was nothing intimate about the service or customer care, that usually differentiates such establishments.

However, I would highly recommend it for that special occasion where you want food and wine to melt-in-your-mouth, and are prepared to pay for it, then VSG it is certainly worth a visit.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed 14 October 2012

I had eaten at this restaurant previously, but several years ago, and had positive memories, so decided to visit again with some friends from overseas. Unfortunately I was left disappointed. I didn't enjoy the food - it was laced so heavily with minced garlic and the sauce was thick, stodgy and oily. The service was very good, and our waiter was full of personality and extremely polite. There was a gentleman playing live music, but it wasn't to my preference, and it honestly made talking a little too difficult. I preferred when he took a break and they played a CD with lovely Italian background music! It will sadly not be high on my list to visit again.

“Great food, but ...”
Reviewed 27 May 2012

Food was good as well as the service. A "client" was smoking in the restaurant and when we asked our waiter to kindly remind the "client" it is a non-smoking zone, the "client" replied that he is the owner. So, does that mean you are above the law and that you do not value your customers? Will not return again.
