For anyone with an interest in South Africa's recent history Liliesleaf is a must see. The Rivonia property has been sucessfully transformed into a modern museum which details the ANC struggle against the white minority government. Many of the displays in the main house and outbuildings are interactive and provide a fascinating insight into the covert operations of MK and the ANC leading up to the famous Rivonia trial in 1963 and the subsequent incarceration of many of the leaders including Nelson Mandela. The on site cafe serves light meals in a relaxing modern setting.

“A very worthwhile visit”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

Have been to this attraction twice now and feel it is very well executed. Together with the Apartheid museum I do feel I now have a better grasp on South Africa and its history. Particularly in regards to this time that revolves around the people, the politics and Nelson Mandela. Liliesleaf plays a very important role in what happened in the 60's, obviously leading to the arrests and the infamous charges and lengthy time in prison. It is laid out over various parts of the property and in part is interactive and very interesting. There is a small cafe that serves drinks, coffee and light meals which I found to be more than acceptable.

“a fascinating window on a piece of s.a. history”
Reviewed 6 January 2014

what a well thought-out, presented and fascinating museum this is, complemented by a good casual-dining restaurant. used by the anc to plot against the apartheid regime, the farm was the subject of a police raid that not only rounded up some of the most wanted people of the time but more importantly unearthed the cache of documents that provided much of the evidence against nelson mandela and colleagues and so led directly to their incarceration on robben island. the story of the site is told in interactive displays, all of a high standard, and in a balanced way that is deeply impressive. there are eye-witness accounts from all sides, and the unanswered questions surrounding the raid itself are posed time and again. guided tours are available, but you would be better advised to work through the various farm buildings and uncover their stories at your own pace. we visited with our daughter and grandchildren, and it says much that all three generations were fascinated and learned a lot in the three hours we wandered around.

“Everyone should visit if in Sandton”

Worth the visit; loads of history in context with the physical imagery as well. Just the brief introductory video sets the scene very well
